Some very interesting comments from Salisbury in his interview with Adrian Harms today. Firstly he would have opened with Haines and Thomason even if Salt had been fit. He backs Thomason to become a solid opener and said they both work well together. Secondly he remarked on the field settings and said Brown had got things slightly wrong yesterday. What a refreshing change to have some honest comments from the coach instead of the vanilla platitudes of Dizzy. Thought it was refreshing that in the Radio Sussex pre match interview, Salisbury said that he would consider it a success if he was still here being interviewed this time next year.
Good to hear a bit of humour too, much needed, as it's been missing for a while.

"...instead of the vanilla platitudes of Dizzy."
That and his sycophantic "quorn quotes" offered after announcing his departure from the Club and breaking his recently signed new contract.

Another tough as well as critical final morning session for the Sussex batsmen has started. Meanwhile, the bad blood between Thomason and Vilas has flared up again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOmjXd9ZIvw

Very well done Thomason. Excellent that Thomason and Clarke are not being verbally bullied by Vilas and Wood. For too long Sussex have had a reputation for being soft. Lancs don't like it. Keep going lads.

Thought Haines and Thomason battled well, there haven’t been many times in the last 2/3 seasons that our opening pair have shown this much fight or gone past 50 for that matter. Unfortunately Haines was seduced by the shorter ball from Mahmood and his hook shot was caught in the deep. Thomason doesn’t look like a character who’d take flak without responding, good for him!

Mightily impressed by Thomason. What a gritty performance this morning and he gave as good as he got from Vilas. Not sure what the bad blood is about philh, but Adrian Harms first mentioned it yesterday afternoon and pointed out more words had been uttered this morning. Thomason's batting reminds me a little of Richard Montgomerie. As a footnote our former opener has gone down the standard teaching path and is now a chemistry teacher at Eton College where he was a housemaster at Jourdelay's for 1 year, and is currently master in charge of the cricket XI. No doubt he and RMJ meet up at the annual Eton v Harrow cricket match at Lord's. edit: SNOW STOP PLAY and a thin white covering already visible on the outfield. Surely a draw now. We gain 14 points. I am not sure how? edit: Of course, you gain 8 points for a draw in the BWT and not 5.

Game called off. It’s a draw. What’s your view on that performance?

Game called off. It’s a draw. What’s your view on that performance? Tom Haines continues his excellent start of season form, Robinson and Meaker can make runs down the order. Thomason showed great application in the 2nd innings. Very well done. Sean Hunt bowled well; we expect Robinson to bowl well; he did.Brown needs to manage Carson better and not let tight situations drift. Van Zyl had a game to forget. A good result against decent opposition; and we showed some toughness in the 2nd innings. Unless Salt is fit; same team for Glamorgan.

An encouraging first outing for Sussex against strong opponents. Already, you can see the positive mental improvements under the helm of Ian Salisbury, so kudos to him. Very impressed with Thomason's gritty approach and Haines showing a BIG improvement from last season. Forgive van Zyl for his disappointing start as things can only improve. Must be a shock for a Saffer playing cricket around a snowstorm. Hunt looks a promising signing and Ollie will continue to mature and improve as the VC gives him more responsibility. Various areas of weakness remain to improve on, but even so... Thumbs up.

Wouldn’t it be good to win a winnable game against Glamorgan?
