Poor show Sussex. A tactic of letting it drift and waiting for the new ball is not good enough. Youngster Carson over bowled. Good effort from Hunt; he must be tired. Hope the lads can come back hard tomorrow morning. My concern over Brown's captaincy continues. But, who else is there?

Sussex need to toughen up. They have allowed Lancashire back into the game. Mr Brown has lots of bowling options; he needs to use them better. The lack of an experienced spinner is a worry. This is where a Captain earns his money. A tough talk to the lads over tea. Serious pressure to be put on Lancs by bowling line and length to set fields. A very placid pitch offering little to the bowlers and Sussex’s young squad being put to the sword. Even Robinson looked fairly innocuous with the new ball. I feel the game is getting away. Regroup and come out fighting tomorrow. If we can keep the lead to under 100........

Agree with both the above comments, but it's really early days in the season. Although I hoped we would be in a slightly better position than we are this evening, it's not disaster, and really fairly positive. The fact that the pitch is challenging to bat on in the morning against lively seam bowling, but gets easier as the day progresses is not a suprise for England in April!
Am enjoying the match so far. Still impressed by the quality of the live stream #GOSBTS

We need to bat well in the last two sessions on Saturday to have any chance of coming away with anything from this game. A wobbly top order and I fear that it’s a defeat. It was good to see young Sean Hunt bowl steadily.

Brown is a drifter not an asserter and he showed that yesterday when he over bowled the ineffective spinners at a key time. Very poor. I've got a huge problem with keepers being captains, they've got enough to do. And now we've appointed an opening bowler as vice. That's okay if he stays vice but not if he goes on to be skipper. Same issue, there's a reason batsmen are generally the captain.

I'd give the captaincy to Salt and tell him to captain like he bats.

More rain delays and we might get away with a draw. Re: Brown, agree with the comments, but as one poster said, "Who else is there?' A batsman is the best choice, so why not Travis Head when he finally arrives at Hove? An obvious choice. Already Captain of South Australia/Redbacks and briefly co-vice skipper for Australia National side. Yet, how would Brown react to being demoted. Has anyone heard any rumours? Obviously, Wright will remain T20 Captain. Meanwhile, the Sussex Cricket Twitter says: "The start has been delayed at Cold Trafford. There was ice on the covers this morning and it's currently snowing... The snow has stopped and an early lunch has been taken! We'll hopefully start at 1pm."

It looks more like Leeds at the moment.

Two more wickets for young Sean Hunt. I hope Brown doesn't over bowl him. Must restrict the Lancs lead to under 100.

Lancashire all out for 407, 106 ahead. We need 3 or 4 of the top six to post decent scores. Another 155 from Tom Haines would help. Another bad start and this game is all over.

So a lead of 106, could have been a lot worse. Not unassailable but our top order need to consolidate now and make the most of this flat track.
Very impressed with Sean Hunt, good line and length throughout. He’s a big strong lad, don’t think I’d like to see him steaming in to me if I was batting.

22-0 at tea and the openers, to their credit, have seen off 12 overs from Mahmood and Bailey. Another good session needed.

Snow in the air, bad light and god alone knows what else and the day of cricket is surely over. Great to see some backbone from the openers. One senses a positive mental shift from Sussex since Gillespie left.
All very encouraging.

Some very interesting comments from Salisbury in his interview with Adrian Harms today.
Firstly he would have opened with Haines and Thomason even if Salt had been fit. He backs Thomason to become a solid opener and said they both work well together.
Secondly he remarked on the field settings and said Brown had got things slightly wrong yesterday.
What a refreshing change to have some honest comments from the coach instead of the vanilla platitudes of Dizzy.
