The warm October sunshine has brought all the comedians out today, hasn't it? Haven't you got an allotment to go and dig on a nice sunny day like this, hh? Indeed, and a nice pile of slurry to cover it with....much like the ECB figures, really.

Nice to tie this guy up - no pun or thoughts from Invicta's sisters intended. The fact that he's young, English and bowls at 90mph is good enough for me - a welcome outside signing. If he don't come off, we've shown good intent regardless. Well done Robbo. That should be it for us though. I'd be amazed if we could afford anyone else of any quality, we don't really need anyone and, any money we can muster would be better spent come June when Mags turns English. We're good to go.

I must admit, that would be preferable to just recruiting another body, as it were. However, given Jordan's likely absence, and previous injury concerns over Anyon, Hatchett, Hobden and new boy Mills, maybe Robbo feels he needs another option now. He's stated that his intention is to bring in another seamer, so I presume we must have the budget. Hopefully he's identified someone who could do a job in all formats. Have to admit, no one out there springs to mind, unless it's someone still contracted to another county. I think Middlesex would consider releasing Harris, in the right circumstances. He's someone I'd like to see us take a chance on, though we might struggle to find the budget, unless some sort of swap could be arranged. If we couldn't find someone, it wouldn't be too catastrophic as we would possibly have the OS option mid season

With Mills on board we don't need another seamer.

With Mills on board we don't need another seamer. Jordan and Lewis out,Amjad not replaced ( miller gone), Piolet and Liddle in effective in red ball cricket.hobden, anyon and mills coming off injury. i suspect we will sign two more seamers.

Heard a rumour you were after Ajmal Shazad. Jordan may not be missing for the whole summer as he aint a dead cert for the test matches so with Magoffin, Hatchett, Anyon, Mills Hobden you may have enough seamers anyway.
I reckon if you can get the Tredwell deal over the line you will be pushing Yorks for the championship.

Can't say I'm quite so confident about Treddy's likely impact. 66 wickets at 42 (strike rate 91) over the last three campaigns doesn't hint at too much of a cutting edge. Could be a decisive one-day acquisition, though.

Shahzad has another season to go on his Notts contract.
He only played half of Notts LVCC matches in 2014, taking 18 expensive wkts, but he was more valuable in white ball cricket, playing every game and striking 24 times at decent rates.
Notts have since signed Will Gidman. If they also sign an overseas quick to replace Siddle, Shahazad will have competition from O/S star, Gurney, Gidman and Fletcher for the new ball and there's Carter and Ball to back up that quartet. So they could let Shahzad out on loan for the LVCC but retain him for the one day stuff, as Kent did with Tredwell last season.
A Sussex championship attack of Magoffin, Jordan (when available), Mills and Shahzad would be fearsome, with three bowlers capable of touching 90 mph. There are some county attacks I can think of who cannot muster anyone who consistently bowls 80 mph, let alone 90 mph.
Such a loan deal, with Notts and Sussex sharing his wages, would also relieve the pressure on the playing budget.
On the other hand, from various comments Jim May has made, Sussex's number one priority for next season seems to be an improvement in white ball cricket rather than in the "least popular" form of the game played in white clothing with a red ball (although to be fair, he may have said that before attendances at the new 50 overs flop of a cup showed that 100 overs a day is no more popular than 96 overs per day).

Must admit I was a bit 'meh" about Shahzad when we were linked with him before Personally, if we can't find better, then I'd rather wait until June, when we can select from the worlds best. Then maybe I'm too fussy. Would really like Tredwell here but it seems increasingly unlikely we could afford him and another seamer.

Lewis and Piolet replaced Amjad and Miller. We finished third last season and with Mills replacing Lewis there is no reason why we can't be challenging for honours next season. Sussex don't need anymore seamers.

Sussex don't need anymore seamers. Only true if Anyon and Hatchett can improve dramatically on the 44 runs per wkt they both conceded last season. Otherwise, the burden falls totally on Magoffin and the fast but unproven Mills, who has only taken 52 wkts in a barely-tested career of just 29 f/c matches. It's astonishing that we finished third last season when no bowler other than Magoffin took more than 25 wkts. Robinson is acutely aware of that stat and I'm told is hoping for at least one more recruit.

Hatchett needs to improve on those stats as otherwise he will find himself getting replaced by George Garton who with 77 wickets @ 22 and 738 runs @ 31 in the last three seasons has definitely shown more promise.

I was impressed by Garton over the season. He gets the new ball to swing both ways, has a great in-swinging yorker and an effective slower ball. His batting has improved considerably and his innings for the academy at PNCC where he scored 64no against the hostile bowling of Carl Simon was promise of things to come. He has the makings of a good bowling all-rounder. He is however still only 17 and I would have thought at least a year from being ready for a professional contract. Yes, if he continues to progress, he could be offered a place on the staff for 2016. Hatchett made progress last season, maybe not huge strides, but progress nevertheless. 2016 could see us with three, relatively young, left arm quicks on the staff
