Jofra Archer is named in the squad and Garton returns. On paper, this is the strongest 2021 Sussex squad so far. Salisbury means business! Add Chris Jordan later on and you have a full house, aces on top. This is an interesting "factoid". Six of Sussex's squad for the Kent match (Jack Carson, Tom Clark, Henry Crocombe, Tom Haines, Aaron Thomason, Delray Rawlins) weren't born when Darren Stevens made his first-class debut in May 1997.sussexcricket.co.uk/news/jofra-archer-named-squad-visit-kentRawlins in the squad? He must be playing as a bowler. Atkins being rested? How tiring it must have been to carry the water bottles at Northants. At least Archer is in. Sussex have missed a trick; could have included a young batter. We should compete with Kent; I hope.

Kent missing Kuhn, Milnes, Podmore, Groenewald and Qayyum (injured), Stewart (not yet match fit after injury), Billings (in quarantine) plus Denly (personal reasons). Quite frankly this game should be pretty easy for Sussex...😬

Looks as if the weather may play a part in this game just when we’ve got our strongest line up. Rain forecast for 3 of the 4 days.

As expected Kent's XI is the same as played vs Yorkshire last week except for Muyeye playing in place of Denly (unavailable). It looks a pretty weak batting line up to me - good toss for Sussex to win.

Sussex bowl first.
Jofra and Garton come in, Meaker and Crocombe miss out.

Surely this must be last chance saloon for Rawlings needs to get his head down for a change Must have been a close call. I thought it would be a straight choice between Rawlins and Clark and that they would go with four seamers. I hope Rawlins does well, irrespective of recent form and his ability not to read the match situation, he is a great talent. What was particularly worrying was his body language following his second dismissal in the last match, he looked thoroughly dejected. At least with three seamers, they must be confident of Jofra's fitness and he should get through a few overs.

Hoped he had turned the corner with 42 & 45 in the Lancashire match, but clearly not considering the display at Northants.
He has got talent, but that doesnt count for much if he's walking off after a few balls following another ill judged wafty shot in the wrong situation. Let's hope he's getting support with his temperament for the red ball game.
That said, I really hope he gets it together and does well, as that will benefit Sussex and ultimately becomes symbiotic to both.
The bowling has a little more bite this morning

Who was the alternative in this game? Personally, another bowler in either Crocombe or Atkins.

Who was the alternative in this game? Personally, another bowler in either Crocombe or Atkins. Absolutely, would have gone with the extra seamer. Can't really understand the need to 'rest' Atkins, given he has only featured in one game (excluding twelth man duties). That would have left a straight choice between Clark (174 runs at an average of 21.75 this season) or Rawlins (109 runs at an average of 13.67 this season) for the final batter. Unless you wanted to take a punt on Ali Orr.
