Brown seems to have found his form in the last couple of innings. Was getting a little worried till last week. Well done to him today, well played. Well done also to Thomason. He showed real mettle when we needed someone to stick around to prevent another collapse and hold up an end to support Brown. Looked more comfortable in the middle order.
Edit: Danial Ibrahim played really well on debut. Looked confident and unphased ... hard to believe he's only 16.
Not a bad day for Sussex.
Close of play : Sussex 267 - 5

Oh no I’m not resisting the T20, it has its place in the calendar domestically and internationally. However, for me and I suspect many others, championship cricket should be the priority while we are playing it. So if Salt is fit now, he should come into the side, as he’s not on a white ball-only contract.
Garton should be playing and what’s the position with Jordan? Quarantining in Barbados I understand - but by my working he left India sometime ago, so why is he not in contention for the championship side, as again, I don’t believe he is a white ball-only player.
Incidentally, I make it only 3 domestic formats in this country.

100 shouldn’t be on there as it’s not a county competition. But if you’re putting test cricket in there, then you can add ODI and T20 internationals as well.

Excellent comeback today, surprised there’s no comments other than this. Great knock from Dumbo Brown, must be doing something right, looked in wonderful form, so fluent. And Ibrahim showed remarkable composure and temperament for one so young. Didn’t panic or give it away when stuck on 9 for a long time, and looked very comfortable blocking the straight ones and leaving anything outside off-stump, then took the scoring opportunities that came his away later on. A hugely encouraging start for him.

Typical, was out all day and missed probably one of our better batting displays for quite some time and against strong opposition.
Brown is a bit of a mystery, seems to have a habit of starting the season poorly and then can't stop scoring. I seem to recall he started with a run of ducks and low scores a few seasons ago, then ran into good form. Sounds like it was a tough first session with conditions very much in favour of the bowlers.
Ibrahim looks a fine prospect, although we shouldn't expect too much too soon. Starting to get really concerned about Head's continuing struggles, particularly given he was brought in to prop up the top end of a batting order that has been historically shaky for quite a few seasons.
Whilst it is great to see a young debutant do well strongly agree with Ashington, yes T20 is where the money is, but for me First Class Cricket should always be the priority and if Salt, Garton and Jordan are fit and available they should be selected.
Would be great if Brown and Ibrahim can carry on tomorrow morning and the Team can push on towards 400 and take control of the match.

Dumbo Brown? Bit harsh Ash. Super Brown was fluent all through it seems, particularly when the new ball arrived. Come on Brown, give up the gloves and open. And on that, not overly impressed by all the seniors letting a rookie middle order kid on debut face the hardest part. Come on chaps? Head went the other way. Didn't help him. I don't like that, seems kinda cowardly to me.
County cricket survived long enough before T20 came along. T20 is a welcome supplement in my opinion but neither need either in reality. England need county championship more, for now. The point is, T20 is a p***y little thing that takes minimal stamina. If you can't play both don't play either, unless it's specific to your contract, which is shouldn't be frankly. Salt and Garton are our two best prospects in all forms. They're needed.
Well done to Ibrahim, and well done to the selectors for not picking Claydon. I'll have to paper over why they kept him on in the first place.
Great start.

Interesting theory about Brown opening, there’s no doubt he’s a stroke maker when he’s in form, and he looked imperious today, so would he have to change his game, or does he play too many shots too open etc. are probably the questions to consider. But the reason I raise it is do you remember in 2010 when he played as a batsman and batted at 3 with great success?

Great fight back by Brown who is the perfect partner to guide the youngster Ibrahim at the other end.
The arrival of Matt Prior and the regaining of form by Brown, coincidence?
2 very welcome batting bonus points.

Well done Ibrahim. A great start to his first-class career. A pity about the top and lower order batting collapses, but not unexpected.
One day all the batsmen will work together as a team to achieve a high first innings score. Thank goodness for Brown in this match.

Congratulations to young Ibrahim for a dream debut first First Class 50 and 1st wicket.
Looks like the Yorkshire innings was an uphill struggle for us, with our bowling looking fairly ordinary. Not to be unexpected. Should be interesting to see how tomorrow goes.
Is Ibrahim the youngest to get a Championship 50?

Ouch. It's a strong batting line-up.
Vaguely remember Brown at three for a while but if he did well, why did it end? If our championship season is one of development and trials, which it obviously is, I think there's something in Brown not only opening but giving up the gloves. Keeper/captain is just too much, and unnecessary. It's probably the furthest thing from his mind but I'd like to see it. At least one of them anyway. He's definitely suited to it coming on, no question.
Didn't Ben Hollioake do something at 16? Ton maybe?

Yorkshire will looking to only bat once by scoring 600 and then putting in us in and bowl us out tomorrow to win by an innings.
Crocombe not having a good day.

600 plus for Yorkshire looking likely. Let’s be honest, our bowlers are being mullered. Not a lot for us to do but get on with it and make sure we bat well when it’s time.
Haines is bowling quite tightly. Ironic, as he hasn’t bowled much this season.
