Sussex now need a rethink. Let this year's T20 play out From 2022 only have contracted players who can and are prepared to play all formats. Keep investing in youth, save money on expensive white ball only players. Employ top batting coach, and then give it 2 years. We need to be patient. Brown can guide the youngsters. But he needs to share the keeping duties and support Garton as the up and coming captain (I assume Robinson will have an England career). Let's see. I think it will take at least three years to transform this squad and get rid of the white ball only cricketers because of the players current contracts e.g. Wright and Head and to make this side competitive in all formats. Instead of 8 players I mentioned before, or 10 if you include Khan and Wiese, I would have rather have two batsmen and two seamers (two of which are overseas) who could play in all formats as I think this will be better for Sussex in the long-run. The importance of an overseas player who can all formats for the whole season has been shown through Goodwin and Mushtaq. I fear Robinson may never play for England again as the woke brigade seem to determined for him to be banned forever. Have they never done anything wrong?

At least there was resistance, for a time. If you don't take the comp seriously...
The management are responsible for on field stuff Devon but I doubt they have a say in our signings and types of contracts, not under Andrew. They can pick the right team and make sure the attitude is right but they've only got what Andrew has told them they've got, and it's a small youthful squad based on a hope that we can develop several gems. Given that everyone on here is 4 day first, T20 second, at best, I'm surprised there isn't more criticism of Andrew. He makes no secret of his direction - it's almost solely based around T20. The Championship is a hinderance to this man. I've heard the words from his mouth but even if I hadn't, it's pretty obvious.
The management are responsible for what I think everyone would agree is a big issue right now - not picking the strongest team. But if we read stuff like Garton, Jordan and Salt are concentrating on a 2nd eleven T20 game instead of a Championship game, maybe they're not.

I would hardly call a squad of 28 players a small squad!

It's a Championship squad of 21 and that's only because we seem to have adopted a 'sign them up from the academy if we need them as we go along' policy - even if they have school the next morning. How many of that 21 have just suddenly been offered a game or contract from nowhere? Orr, Coles, Ibrahim, Sarro, Atkins. I'm guessing a bit. Were any of those in the first team squad in April?
Not that I'm complaining. Be pretty stupid to spend 10 years banging on about youth and then moan cos these five have got a gig. The point is, it was a small squad in April beefed up by T20 specialists.
