As another Kent supporter at Canterbury yesterday, I agree with longhops. It's worth saying that the Kent attack in this game isn't much removed from our normal attack (Quinn, Podmore - both regulars, Gilchrist - has played for us previously is very promising) but the batting looks weak. Very weak. And once Kuhn fell frankly it is only Finch and the tail left.
Given the rain here last night (& still falling now) I don't expect much, if any, play today. But with a possible 2 days left after today I would see Sussex as having a good chance to win.

Watching Sussex play certainly isn't boring. The crop of young talent emerging in both batting and bowling is very exciting. In all the Championship games so far, Sussex have competed well. This bodes well for the future. If the batters and bowlers can develop their skills and craftsmanship, I predict good times ahead for Sussex. May not need full quota of overseas players with big wages. Look at Head. On paper before he arrived looked a good signing. Getting a good overseas is perilous.

Yes, I wish now that we’d started the season with the young batters and not had any overseas players. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Play under way. Atkins continues to impress and takes the wicket of Harry Finch.

It's official. Kent's live stream is worse than Sussex's.

Kent fan in peace here! I thought we did to get you all out for 181. However, was afraid that our batting line up might struggle. Atkins has serious pace and was really impressive. Am impressed with some of your youngsters: Ibrahim, Atkins, Crocombe and Lenham to name but 4. Hopefully if they come good, the future will be bright for Sussex. Am hoping that our youngsters will come good as well. Cox & Robinson certainly have done well so far. You may find a few more since they've been thrown in at the deep end, Longhops. That's how it's largely been for us. Shandies all round at close of play, then homework. Really liking Atkins and Hunt in the little I've seen. Batters and keepers growing on trees too. It is pleasing. The weather though, really poor summer so far. Really need a decent last couple of months, Mother Nature.

I am aiming for the GREATEST goatmouth of the 2021 season.
Sussex Batters
: Biggest opening partnership of season (Now 147).
: Orr closing in on a century (Now three 50s in a row).
: Haines scores yet another 50 (725* runs at average of 45.31 for season.)
: Batting could not be going better.
: Plenty of overs left in the day (40 left at tea).
: Weather set fair tomorrow.
: Down to Ollie to decide the best time to declare.
: This match should be a win for Sussex.
(Sussex lead now by 160 runs)
[At 3 an over that takes the close of play score to a lead of 280+]
Perhaps, bat for the first hour of the day tomorrow and then declare? _______________________________________________________
At tea, Sussex lead by 163.
147-0.

Well done Ali Orr!! Only his third first class match and the 20 year-old scores a century. Even a Spitfire flew overhead as he reached the three figures. What perfect timing.

I’m amazed at the talent that has emerged this year. Without all these successes, this season could have been embarrassingly bad. We are going to end up 13th to 18th in the County Championship but I feel confident that we are on the up.
I saw Ali Orr build a very competent 50 last week. To follow that with a ton this week is impressive. As for Jamie Atkins, I overheard someone in the crowd at Canterbury say that he looked like a quality opening bowler.
It would be good if we can go on and win this one.
