So who's going to be the first to say that we shouldn't have released Finch then..... There's only one candidate - he says Finch got plenty of chances but good luck to him, hope he gets a contact next door. Quality stuff from the very impressive youth. Bit too conservative once we'd got 200 ahead with the pace of innings if I were gonna break the mold and be critical. This Championship season needs to be a very quick transitional/settling-in period. It has inadvertently struck gold several times, so that's brilliant. In fact it's totally eclipsed all the bad stuff, like the lack of points and what not. Real promise from this crop and the first signing of the pre pre season has been the best and most pleasing for years - pre, pre pre, or otherwise. Not likely to happen but really think Brown should give up the gloves and lead as a batsman alone, up the order. Either that or give up the captaincy to Salt or someone. Speaking of Salt, needs to come in to the middle order. So much to look forward to. You got lucky Andrew, real lucky.

At least this season Sussex didn't win the Championship wooden spoon. That accolade goes to Derbyshire. We came 16th instead or two places better than 2020. Onwards and upwards for 2022... hopefully!

We are heading for Division 3 in September. This means we can end up anywhere between 13th and 18th (points to date are carried forward), Wooden spoon is still possible.

Don't worry about where we end up in any table. Any team can beat any other in any table. The important focus is for 2 years ahead. We want a good team spirit, local talent, multi format cricketers, minimal overseas. Greenfield has to make sure that the big clubs don't poach our talent.

What's his job again? If he's still clearing the pathways, sure. If he's some director of performance or cricket, no. It's hard to tell. If he is on the pathway Andrew has simply told him to promote some youth so we have a squad - I'd still give him some credit though. Who's head of Academy?

Good display from Sussex so far - but I gather that Kent are fielding their 2nd XI . . . Kent started the game with 6 players playing their first game for the county (for 4 it was also their first class debut- the fifth was Harry Finch); of the other 6 players 3 were regular first team players (Kuhn, Podmore & Quinn) and 2 reserves (Gilchrist & Qadri). After day 1 Gilchrist had to be withdrawn into isolation due to a Covid contact, and was replaced by Wightman, making his county & first class debut. Only Worcestershire (in 1899) & Northants (1905) have fielded a team with more players making their first class debut! 9Glamorgan in 1921 also fielded 5). For the other 3 counties it was in their first first class match. FWIW I was very impressed with Atkins (was he injured in the second innings), Orr & Coles (as a batsman). We were glad to get a draw! Atkins was injured I think Adrian said.
