WC “cream rises to the top” is the phrase you’re looking for.
150 up for BB, well batted.

As Matt Prior has stated - and he would know - most of the departures have not been prompted by financial considerations Can i quote you that Matt Prior has said none of them above were offered contracts? How about applauding Brownys hundred and the emergence of Carter? Nope easier to moan i suppose Impressed by Carter, played himself in and played well. Brown carried the team today.

OK, first day of County Cricket in a while.
Hot takes.
£20 a bit steep to watch 3rd Div cricket, particularly as Sussex played their ‘B’ team. Do we charge the same as 1st Div clubs? Crawley doesn’t charge the same as Brighton.
Delray Rawlins? What was that all about, he spent longer leaving the field of play than he did at the crease?
Apart from Haines, Carter and Carson poor Brown was left to score all our runs?
And this against Derby!

The Sussex reply so far tells its own story. There's nothing quite like 14 years of CC experience.... I wonder what it does for these young players confidence reading posts constantly slagging them off. Ive deliberately stayed away from Forums because of the lack of realism from some Fans. Evans was offered a contract but left for more money Briggs was offered a contract but left for more money CJ was offered a contract but left for more money Salt was offered a contract but left for more money Anyone that thinks the club just sat back and let these players go must be mad in my eyes. LEts try some positive comments rather than constantly negative. Just 1 would be nice. No-one is negative about the young players’ performances and I doubt very much they read these. We have every right to be critical of the continuous departures of senior players and the subsequent slump in our fortunes on the pitch, and ask the questions as to how on earth it’s been allowed to happen. Can’t just sit back and meekly accept it all.

Well well well done Ben Brown, the kid's got moxy. Although he was brought up on div one cricket when we were good. I guess you could say the cream makes its way up the steps and turns up at some point at its true destination. Or something. Although there's been loads of times this season when the cream has just sat there at the bottom, leaving the rising to a few embryos.
Nothing bad written on here about the youth. As a youth promoter myself what I'll say is I never wanted to promote all of them at once. I don't know why we haven't got both Robinson and Finn here. I think this attack needs someone. Robinson is curious - he isn't England's yet but regardless, he hasn't and won't played/play in ages.

The batting had a lot of messages for me today:
Orr (0) - He has done so well this season; it had to go wrong some time. Haines (18) - Looked set for another 100 until he got caught down the leg side Brown (150 no) - I’ve always thought he was a decent bat but since playing as a specialist bat, he looks far more than just decent Ibrahim (1) - I saw him bat beautifully at Worcester but he’s being given too much responsibility too soon due to our deficiencies. He needs some easier runs after looking uncomfortable today. However, he has great potential. Ward (0) - If I read the scoreboard right, that’s 11 runs at an average of 2.2 in the CC. He needs a season in the 2nds Carter (51) - I love his determination. He will get better and will be a good number 6. Celebrated his 50 with a rash shot and was rightly annoyed with himself. He will learn. Rawlins (0) - I’ve nothing to say that others haven’t said already. I’m not sure he will learn. Carson (27 no) - He seems to be vulnerable when he first comes in but he looks a more than useful bat. He can defend and hit.
I would like to see Ben go on and make 200. We’re certain to come 18th in the CC unless we win this game. That looks as likely as pigs flying but we could save it if Brown and Carson can carry on where they left off.

Matt Prior running his mouth off on Twitter is his choice but again all i see is critique but never 1 mention of a solution from him. "We can just sit back and accept it" what does that mean? Riots? Or do we keep the faith in the process like we did in 2002 when we didnt sign anyone from outside but promoted players like Yardy, Ambrose, Prior from the academy. I must admit i did chuckle when i saw someoneon here pick Claydon in the starting XI for this game.

A day's county cricket has to be worth £20. What benchmark are you using when you say that's expensive? Surely you don't expect a county to reduce its prices because it's having a bad season?!

I must admit i did chuckle when i saw someoneon here pick Claydon in the starting XI for this game. We did yes, but it shouldn't mask an absolutely dire county championship season. And how do you know we were priced out on all those players? Of greater concern is that all these players have wanted to leave. It smacks of 1996/7 all over again, and we all know how that ended. You can dismiss Prior as "running his mouth off" if you like, but the point is that he cares, and he made a very pertinent and poignant point recently that we used to be a club that players wanted to join and no-one wanted to leave, so how on earth has it come to this and players wanting to leave in their droves? You can indeed just sit back and accept it if you like, but you surely cannot be happy at the decimation of our squad over this year and last, and indeed previous years? Tell me that the departures of the players below and replacing them with a load of youngsters is some sort of progress: Wells, Evans, Briggs, Finch (ok - released), Salt, Jordan, Van Zyl, Thomason, Meaker (ok - retired) Claydon (ok - retired) No I'm not suggesting we riot at all, but we have a right to be angry, annoyed and ask questions as to how this has been allowed to happen, and a lot of people are very unhappy. What doesn't help is when they hold a forum but don't read out any of the pre-submitted questions and just give us a load of waffle. Prior, Ambrose and Yardy broke into the championship side in 2001 (though Yardy had debuted the year before) and Ambrose didn't make his championship debut till the penultimate match. So the only younger players playing regularly were Prior and Yardy, and you could maybe add Zuiderent to that as he hadn't played a lot of championship cricket. The rest of the team was Montgomerie, Goodwin (brought in from outside that year), Adams, Martin-Jenkins, Rashid, Kirtley, Lewry and Robinson.....so nothing like the current situation.

Matt Prior in my opinion is doing a lot of damage and stoking fires, does he care or is he just after a job on Sky now his cycling business has gone bust?
