Optimism is a wonderful thing. This match is going from good, to bad to now worse. 117 runs to avoid another innings defeat with 7 wickets left. Brown out after only facing three balls and Haines has just been run out. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO51613To quote the comms - Haines played a bizarre shot before running himself out next ball. Did his resolve finally desert him on what may be the last day of the season for Sussex?

It will all be over today, losing to a team who havent enforced the follow on since 2016. Outclassed by Leicestershire and now Derbyshire. Being thumped every match .The season cant finish soon enough as the team is now shot to pieces . Thank God we can close the season after today/ tomorrow . So many questions that the Management fail to answer . Im all for youth and I know its a project that will take time and patience . I just despair at the way these youngsters are being exposed all far too ofen. I heard Salisbury saying they were learning from these beatings - Does anyone actually know what as said at the Members Forum by Andrews/ Warren/Greenfield regarding how uncompetitive the four day team has become ?

It's also worth noting we are misisng 3 key players who are missing through either injury or IPL that will be around next year. Archer Garton and Robinson. Add in to that we are missing 2 overseas slots. Put those 5 in and its a different outlook. I just dont think management are to blame and i dont think it's as dark as people think. I'm sitting here not worried about the result as it's almost irrelavent but I want to see our young guns perform and get runs and confidence. I doubt we'll see Archer or Robinson much if at all next year, maybe Archer if he gets fit as he’ll need some red ball cricket to get match fit again. Even if Archer had been fit for this one, he'd have been off playing in the IPL probably. Please, let’s not go making out that those three not playing is an excuse for what is looking like another hefty defeat. Well if management aren't to blame, I'm really not too sure who is. We can't just dismiss our decline and performances this season as one of those things. We all want to see them perform and get runs, but I really doubt they're getting any confidence from being thrown in en masse week after week and being thrashed. I admire your optimism, and 5-year plans are great, provided you've a) actually got some experienced players involved at the start of it to supplement the young players (we haven't, we either let them leave or find any number of reasons not to select them) and b) have some legitimate reason as to why you're going that way - we've yet to be told satisfactorily why that is.

BBC are trying to make me more despondent by skipping wickets 4 and 5.
Fall of Wicket Batter 43-1 (15.3 overs) Orr 43-2 (15.6 overs) Brown 51-3 (18.3 overs) Haines 92-6 (32.8 overs) Ward

And what if all your experienced players are unavailable for any reason. Do you honestly think hand on heart this is the side Ian Salisbury wants to put out? It's not about optimism for me it's about not always looking for the negative at every point. When I look back at the end of Robbos reign i was watching players on loan like Tredwell, Linley, Burgoyne, Dockerill to name but a few and we were still getting beat, I'll alwyas rather lose with home grown talent than win occassionally with county journeymen.

Indeed, it's not over when you've got Rawlins still to come and patiently bat out the next day and a half. This is a case in point. The immediate response is to go negative because it's easier. If in 3-5 years time this process works with the core of the squad being built around these players I can guarantee you'll be the first to rejoice.

Let's assume no Archer and Robinson next season in County Championship and little/no Garton as he will be in IPL/England squads potentially. Does everyone think that the side below is good enough to hold its own? I don't think the team below is unrealistic, although, I confess, I am not clear about Head's position (yes, it's on top of his neck).
Orr Haines Brown Head A.N.Other Carter Hudson-Prentice Carson Crocombe Finn Atkins

According to Adrian Harms on commentary something happening during the tea interval.
Please let it be the announcement of a new signing for next season.

I'm convinced that XI will show improved performances but it needs to be topped up with some more experienced pros.

Delighted for Delray, this will do his confidence the power of good. There's a serious player in there bursting to come out
