A new name to me, Brooke Guest, Australia Under-19 wicketkeeper-batsman to join Lancashire on a one season contract. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/38049777Apparently he is English-born, and now wishes to pursue an England career. Good luck, its a crowded field at present.

The superbly-named Hardus Viljoen, who bowled a huge quantity of no balls amongst some fierce short stuff against Sussex last September, when playing for Kent, is joining Derbyshire on a three year deal. Presumablt this will be a Kolpak arrangement, as with Van Zyl, and implies that he can't see a way back into the South African attack .

In my opinion, that's a tremendous signing, and gives Derbyshire the strike bowler they've desperately needed. As you say, the length of contract suggests that it will be on a Kolpak contract, and to back that up, Kim Barnett was talking up his balanced attack with Viljoen bowling in tandem with spinner Imran Tahir. Good recruitment from Derbyshire this winter

The Kolpak invasion is gathering momentum. South Africa's quota system should benefit the County Championship as a higher standard of player are being recruited. I would like to see two overseas players allowed in the Championship to boost interest. If the best domestic players rarely feature then we might as well watch the best available elsewhere.

I see that he is also a wicketkeeper so that might well limit the opportunities for Andrew Hodd.

I see that he is also a wicketkeeper so that might well limit the opportunities for Andrew Hodd. Were that the case, could you see an opportunity for him here? On the face of it, he might still be playing second fiddle, but this time to Ben Brown. However, Ben has yet to convince in white ball cricket, though I'm sure he'll be determined to do so. We do have a vacancy for a reserve, or one day keeper, and return to his home county might be tempting. Something I suggested before, could we offer him the dual role, of back up keeper, and batting coach? I have no idea whether he has a desire to go into coaching in the future, and I base it on nothing other than, Murray Goodwin, once describing Andrew Hodd, as technically one of the best batsmen he'd seen

jonboy Hodd was only capped last season and seems settled in the area. The emergence of Bairstow as an England regular gave him far more opportunities than seemed likely and he played most of the Championship matches last season. From what I read Handscomb is only likely to keep in one day matches. However Hodd is 33 in January so a package such as you suggest may well be appealing.

I see, key to that seems to be, the fact that he is settled in the area. Yes, he's likely to get more first team outings for Yorkshire, than he would for Sussex

A couple of days ago Cricinfo's South African correspondent wrote that Abbott and Cook had been rewarded for not turning to England to further their careers. If this is true then presumably other high profile players might well be susceptible to an offer.

Rossouw would have been a brilliant replacement for Joyce. A hard hitting left handed opener who is also capable of some pretty serious destructive batting in white ball cricket Imagine him and Luke opening the innings in the one day games, awesome
