At least it looks like a bit more budget is still available. I reckon Rafeeq would be a better punt than another seamer as I doubt Jordan will be playing many Tests next year.

How can there be any budget left? With Prior losing his central contract and Jordon gaining one and Mills, Shahzad and Hudson-Prentice having joined the club and only Arafat and Lewis having left where the extra money is coming from?

Well there are circumstances in which we might be able to afford a youngster or two if a couple of the existing squad were leaving. One assumes that management would understand the constraints better than most . And it's not clear that what robinson would like in an ideal world will be available.

My point is Wally that even if you say Prior's wages have been covered by Jordan going onto a central contract then the wage bill must still be quite a bit higher than last year with Mills, who is getting paid twice what he was on at Essex, and Shahzad who won't have come cheap replacing Lewis who at 38 wouldn't have been on the highest salary and Arafat who won't been paid much as he was only on a one-day contract.

It's not like we got the Aussies coming, which the club were probably banking on, and the Spen Carma money must be running out as most of it was spent on the redevelopment. The accounts will show us if this is the case or it is a case of spending money we don't have. Unlike RBS there won't be any taxpayer bailout once the Spen Carma money and the cash reserves run out. It is the not the lack of profit the club should be most worried about but the lack of cash. Without cash a business won't survive which makes their decision to delay the release of the membership until the 1st December all the more baffling.

Circumstances may change...eg a senior player may leave.... Who do you have in mind - Prior? Well we have two senior players with injuries who may possibly call it a day....I really don't know ....I am gonna make a guess that Robbo is more likely to know than me and circumstances may change...ie we may know more in April. That's all I was trying to say....two years ago it was Amjad whose career was unexpectedly cut short. .Robinson has said he doesn't think we will sign someone, but never say never.you can't always get what you want and if something he wants comes along who knows what? We have also lost Tredders salary. So it's reasonable that he keeps on looking and worries about he budget if a he faces a choice.

We have just had someone post on VFTB saying Allenby is going to join Matt Maynard at Somerset, I don't how true this is but I thought I'd pass it on.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/30096333Allenby's move to Somerset confirmed. He signed a new four year contract at Glamorgan only last summer. Contracts and the regulations designed to prohibit tapping up another team's contracted players don't seem to mean a thing any more, do they? I can think of at least four contract-breaking moves this autumn - Shahzad, Denly, Compton and now Allenby. There may well be others. Meschede on loan to Glamorgan is some small compensation to the Welshmen - I wonder if they have received financial compensation, too? Legally they are entitled to demand it. Meanwhile, still no news on Hatchett, Beer and Piolet signing the contracts Sussex has offered them? Nobody could blame any of them if they are not in a rush to commit themselves to Sussex's second XI and have asked their agents to see if they can secure promises of more regular first-team cricket in Div Two...

Luke Wells comments on his extension are instructive. It may well be that Piolet, beer and hatchett are looking for some guidance. But I doubt very much a player would prefer to settle for Leicestershire or Derbyshire to pressing for a place at Sussex. The truth is that last season none of Piolet ,beer or hatchett showed enough to believe they should be a starter in a top three division one team. And yet they are all young enough to have that ambition.
The movements that have taken place ( with perhaps the exception of Allenby) seem to have been mutually agreed, but it does seem that teams do not wish to hold on to players who would like to move ( with the possible exception of kent and Tredders). Sussex have frequently been in that position themselves and let Akram, Rory, Saqlain all move to Surrey while under contract.

Beer and Piolet will both turn 27 next year, so surely now or never for them if they want to establish themselves as first team players in all formats. If they are happy to be merely white ball specialists like Liddle and only play for the seconds in red ball cricket, then they will no doubt opt to stay. I've no idea what their thinking is or what their agents may be advising; all I know is that I wouldn't blame them for looking elsewhere and I wouldn't accuse them of a lack of ambition if they went to the Leics/Kent/Glam/Derby end of the food chain in search of greater first team opportunities.
Hatchett is a bit younger, although even he will turn 25 before next season starts and he has just dropped futher down the pecking order with the arrival of two new opening bowlers. Again, one couldn't blame him if...
I don't think I have an opinion on whether they should go or stay. What I'd want is whatever is best for all three of them as players and if any of them can get a first team promise eleswhere, I'd be pleased for them and wish them all the very best.

No question it's a tough business and they have hard decisions to make. Sussex is very exacting and unsentimental so that no players are guaranteed selection or success. I have every sympathy for those who have tried but not made it at Sussex including among others thornley,Gatting,Tom Smith,Ollie Rayner, Hodd, who tried elsewhere and those like will Adkin , Sean heather and Neil Turk who just retired. And I fully agree with your sentiment to wish them the best if they try elsewhere.i still follow to see how they get on and wish them the best. Not often has Sussex been proven wrong.
