The Guardian will have wet themselves when this story came about. Literally wet themselves in glee, just like the despicable race-baiting Independent. What's worse? Name calling or rape and exploitation of a child? We know what the Guardian and the Independent think. To me, it's banter, but I'm not wet. To most, it's racism. These days, with the movement, good luck Yorkshire. Their man who S&F highlights has been very naïve. He needed a patsy, of some sort. As well as well-voiced Yorkies (can he say that, Yorkies? Ya racist mate), Vaughan and Boycott, I'd like to know what the likes of Root, Bairstow and Rashid have to say. Must have seen or heard it. Same age group roughly. I once had an Asian mate who I regularly called p*ki, and he regularly called me pinky. Not in front of other people though. Names names names. I'm pretty sure there's a well known saying about names. They are only names. They're not rape and murder. This has always puzzled me, the french call us les rosbifs, we are also called wingeing poms or pmmey b**tards, limeys, all sorts but no one ever sees that as racism. |

I seldom post on this forum, I only looked at this thread to see what people thought as I’d dipped out of being a cricket follower for a couple of years and was late picking up on the Yorkshire story.
I have to say reading the pile onto Liquidskin makes me feel uncomfortable. Maybe he has a history of unfortunate views but this accusing him of racism because of one anecdote, whether done tongue in cheek or not, seems over the top.
Bullying and name calling in the workplace is very unpleasant, whoever said sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me was wrong. But to just trot out the usual ‘only whites can be racist’ is equally bad, and a form of racism, and also untrue. There are good and bad people in all races, I thought and hoped we were getting to the stage where we were getting past skin colour.

I suggest you have a listen to the YouTube clip I posted earlier on this thread. Then ask yourself if you’ve ever not been selected for a team because you’re white? Followed around a shop because you’re white? Tried to hail a taxi but were ignored because you’re white? Etc etc etc. |

Les Rosbifs is just a jest in response to continually calling the French frogs. And would you really expect Aussies not to fire back when they are continually called convicts for hundreds of years? |

My hubby didn’t get a job once because he was white, does that count? I hate racism, I just wondered why calling the English names is considered OK. |

No one should be abused because of characteristics they can’t help, be it skin colour, hair colour, height, or lack of, mental capacity, shyness, anything. I’m not justifying Rafiq being abused, that was plain wrong. Napoleon called us a nation of shop keepers, and he wasn’t being complimentary, we should all stop with the name calling. |

I refer you back to my original answer to your post. You live in a white privileged majority, not your fault just an accident of birth, but you therefore have never felt racial abuse no matter how many times you’ve been called a whinging pom. There is no comparison and to suggest there is shows a total lack of understanding in my opinion. |
