Are Crane and/or Beard confirmed? I can't find any confirmation of this. No they’re not but I have on good authority. Will have to wait till squad is announced and we’re usually the last to do that.

How very sad to be looking out for loan signings.. It is just crap management and hope new chairman has the balls to make decisions. I could have told them months ago Archer and Robinson would rarely be available. Garton has been injury prone for years. Finn has hardly bowled in 4 day game for 2 seasons so no surprise will now struggle to suddenly bowl 15/20 overs a day Unfortunate that FHP injured but at most is an average 3rd or 4th seamer that wanted to get home. Will not bowl any side out. Shame Atkins our most promising seamer has gone backwards so far. All winter to find a good pro that could bowl 20 overs a day at no more than 2/3 an over

Still no Robinson. His tooth can’t be stopping him from playing has he still got a bad back?
Maybe his overall fitness is not up to scratch.

Haines (c) Orr Alsop Pujara Clark Rizwan (wk) Beard Crane Burrows Crocombe Hunt Sorry Joe, but too many loan signings and overseas in this team for me. You may well be right with the selection, but how on earth does selecting this many non contracted Sussex players support the bigger picture? The balance is not right. As for Robinson, what is going on here?

Well the squad announcement says why Robinson ain't playing - sounds like he can't be arsed. Nothing about the ECB saying what's what.
I like Crane but Lenham could provide the 0-115 odd off 20 odd overs he produced in Hants' last game. All these loan signings are a joke. I know we have injuries but all this is a simple reflection of poor management. It really is.
Anyone with a cricket brain knows we have two hopes. One is simply hope we win the toss on a typical boring Hove wicket and bat first and long. The second, which is what I would have been doing from the off, is produce a green top. Everyone knows if your bowling is weak and your batting is strong, produce a green top. And vice versa. That's obvious and it's easy to do. Remarkably easy. But our leaders have not done this and I'm beginning to wonder if the thought has even entered their simple little minds.
Let's just hope we win the toss and then make it count. It doesn't really matter if it's our attack or someone else's flops running in, except that it's highly embarrassing.

Very impressive Joe, how do you get the inside track on all this information?
As per my post on the Worcestershire thread...
‘Assuming Robinson is going to be available for a couple of matches and Finn's knee has recovered, for me we need a seamer and a spinner, only on a short term one month basis Liquid and with the caveat that they can't be recalled by their parent County!! Thanks for that one Kent. I would stick with our batters, despite the inconsistencies across the three matches to date’.
I know it won't please everyone, but given where we are it was the only sensible option. The players we have within our own ranks, without the support of those who are injured just aren't at the right point in their development to deliver what is currently required. It would be interesting to know if there were any other alternatives available before we settled on Crane and Beard, but all in all two good signings, which would have been ideal if it were not for the continuing absence of our main strike bowler. I hope someone comes out and gives an accurate and honest explanation as to why he is still unavailable for selection.
The problem we have without any of Hudson-Prentice, Garton & Ibrahim is we don't have that genuine all rounder to give balance to the side, so you either play the five bowlers as per the previous posters and have a weakened batting line up with the tail starting at seven or play the extra batter and use Haines/Clark as your fifth bowling option. Neither being ideal. My initial fears over Finn and his ability to stay fit are regretfully coming to fruition.
The top six pick themselves, although Alsop needs a score. I suspect they will go with extra batting insurance of Carter at 7 and then Beard, Crocombe, Crane and Hunt. Without Robinson, you still have to question whether there is enough there to take twenty wickets. Correct decision to pull Atkins out of the firing line, he just needs a bit of time in the seconds to get back to where he was last season.

Atkins has had all close season to get where he was Devon, and so has Hunt, Crocombe & Sarro. It makes me wonder if these lads have had a winter program at all. They should have been whipped in to shape all year. Looks like the only whip Atkins has had is donut whip, whatever that is. Fat or injured is no good here.
The top six does not pick itself, it's wrong. Pujara should be at 3, Carter should be at 6, with gloves, and Alsop should be at Hants.
