I think that's the valid point isn't it. FHP may be a place too high at 7, but then we'd have McAndrew and Robinson which is a strong 8 and 9, and Carson is no slouch either. Agreed but those 3 at 7,8,9 you almost definitely need the top 6 to have put a big score down. But if thats the only problem we have this season then it cant be bad.

Sussex win the toss and bat first.
Team as I predicted, Coles and Hunt miss out.

One of the all time great commentator's curse's from Harms for the Orr wicket.

One of the all time great commentator's curse's from Harms for the Orr wicket. Unbelievable, made even better by the "I hope he doesn't get out this ball" Haines was unlucky - looked like he middled it

Doesnt look easy to score on this pitch, all batters have struggled for real fluency.
Keep grinding it out boys

Useful partnership of 94 between Alsop and Carter takes us to tea at 218-4

Tom Alsops innings was a sign of how far weve come, he couldnt lay bat on ball early in his innings and really struggled, huge credit to the bloke for grinding it out.
Another good day on a testing wicket.

Hoping we can get at least 400 which given the likelihood of rain, should probably ensure we’re not beaten (falling any Ben Stokes style declarations).

I'd be declaring at 350 tops and then get our attack on that surface. Coad and Fisher were a threat but Bess and Edwards were no marks. Haines dismissal was a shocker.

This may be a breakthrough season for Carter. His hard work over the Winter could pay us and him dividends.

Alsop played great but got out to an awful shot should have scored a hundred then gone on. If Sussex are to get promoted they can’t rely on Pujara to get tons all the time others have to step up.

The thing is Steve he didnt bat great, he was really struggling for rhythm for the first half of his innings and could have played on 4 times early on but got away with it. I think he done himself proud getting to 95 but it was a rank long hop he didnt quite hold off, the shot choice was right the execution wasnt. Anyway given todays forecast I'd be surprised if we bat on at all.

Well, last year Haines, Orr, Alsop, Carter and Clark got over 4200 championship runs between them, so I wouldn’t worry too much on that count.
