It’s concerning to hear of another county in financial difficulty. You have to hope they’re not all lined up like dominoes in the way the clubs appear to be in Rugby Union. On another topic mentioned above … my adopted county of Kent has just awarded a new contract to Harry Finch and they’re no fools. I agree he hasn’t realised his early potential but I was disappointed when we released him. He would have been a stabilising factor while many others were deserting the sinking ship and added depth to a very thin squad. Players of Finch’s quality are ten-a-penny. He had more chances than he deserved at Sussex. He's one of the few on therealab’s list that Sussex got right. At other times I would have agreed but not when we were haemorrhaging so many players we had to form a team consisting mostly of teenagers.

We shouldn’t accumulate players who have shown they are not up to it. Plus Finch’s exit gave opportunities to the likes of Coles and Orr. I wouldnt swap him for any of our top five. This is minutiae though. Harry Finch staying or going wouldn’t have changed much. It’s the departures of the top players that have done for us.

This probably isnt true though, if you read the list you wouldnt see hardly any of them players in red ball cricket and the difficult decisions taken to rebuild has left us financially stronger, its not sexy i get that and theres still some lasting damage but corners were turned last year and i think we'll have a good season.
In the CC if we stay injury free i think we'll have a Div 2 winners trophy in the cabinet.

Seriously though, as it currently stands our only real problematic area is number 4 and that can be filled by Carter. It really isnt that bad but yeah would i love 2 or 3 new faces to strengthen the numbers

Also, we only have Hughes for half a season, so the opening slot is still a problem. Plus we don’t know who is going to spearhead our bowling attack for the second half.

Yeah true But we have room to solve these problems. Keep the faith, if Joe and John have their way they'll have Matt Prior as CEO and Chris Adams as head coach. That's when true disaster will hit. Trust Farbrace trust Filby. Bookmark this post! We will win Division 2 and we will be great again.

McAndrew can do it, but he is only part time. Then what? Last year's bowlers will have to get a lot better. Can't see this happening. Big season for Carson. He needs to show he can take wickets and tie an end up.

Just for the record, I don’t want Matt Prior anywhere near our club and I wouldn’t trust Filby as far as I could throw him.
FYI Jayden Seales is injured.

As it stands, we will struggle to take 20 wickets. We would also need to sign two prolific batsmen. Ok, maybe only one if both Haines and Alsop got back to their best and both Pujura and Hughes dominated like Pujura did last year. Remember some counties have been going for it on the recruitment front. Others have young players of their own that will be better next year.It will likely be a more competitive division. Having said that, if for some reason Ollie Robinson ends up playing ten games for us it could paper over all the cracks and we could indeed win it. Unlikely though, as that’s why he plays for England.

As a Kent supporter, can I just thank Sussex for deciding that Harry wasn't good enough....as he's been pretty good for us since joining (averaged nearly 40 in the CC in 2023 whilst also keeping wicket and being selected ahead of Sam Billings!) 🤣

It doesn’t mean his time wasn’t up at Sussex.

Could be worse, could be Grubby as DoC and Squeaky as CEO.

Im not on any wind up.
I firmly believe in what Farbrace is trying to achieve, to follow on from the good work and solid platforms Grubby left him with.
A few posts back from a Kent fan, hes delighted that a second rate part time wicket keeper batter is at that club, thats the ambition Kent has. We want more and rightfuly demand more.
Keep the faith John and ill arrange for you to be able to sip champagne out of the Div 2 trophy at the end of season party!
