With a Test average of 23, I’d say he’s definitely outstanding!

With Robbo left out of the 2nd Test he now hasnt played any cricket since July 9th 2023. I cant see him playing in many of the remaining 3 test matches either. If he doesnt and he isnt avaialable for us ont he 5th April you'd have to say the ECB is letting him down and this is an example of where a Central Contract system can fail a player. It’s not just the ecb, Ollie Rob has recently missed games for us with tooth ache and a finger injury…. He’s not exactly busting a gut to get on the pitch for us

I’m pretty sure if Farby hadn’t come along when he did Ollie would have been off to a first Div club.

Oli Rob is a wonderful cricketer who has done great things for Sussex. His availability is literally our only chance of having a successful season so yes I’m concerned about how much he wants to play for us these days. You believe he’s fully committed and wants to play as much as possible for us, whereas I don’t, that’s all! Last season for example he didn’t even had the courtesy to stay in contact with the club

I saw a text Ollie had sent a staff member last year after he was withdrawn for a game saying how frustrated he was to be pulled out on the morning of the game by the ECB.

coles only made 13 but has taken the 2 wickets to fall in the 2nd Innings - 2/31 so far. If his bowling develops it'll put the necessary pressure on Carson and also what a weapon we'd have.

Because the club get paid compensation for anyone who has an ECB central contract (so costs nothing)

One of the problems with Ollie being at Sussex is that we look a much better team when he is playing. Unsurprisingly, the rest of the team must feel the chances of winning are far greater. It makes building a team very difficult. I’d rather have someone who is a good county bowler in the side every game than hoping Ollie plays seven games. If he slips out of favour this season with England, I wonder if he will stay at Sussex (great news for Sussex) or move on.

He’s not exactly busting a gut to get on the pitch for us For a time Robinson seemed indifferent to cricket as a whole, not just Sussex. In fact he seemed indifferent to anything that wasn’t his new girlfriend. That said, I don’t think he was using injuries as an excuse to get out of playing, when he could have played. He deserves the benefit of the doubt from supporters given all the graft he’s put in for this club. If it wasn’t for Robinson we’d have hit the skids a lot sooner.

Coles has always struck me as a serious batting talent with a wide range of shots and an elegant, calm approach. But his bowling has never impressed - neither a wicket taker, nor a container type. It’s odd seeing him going in at 9 and being first bowler and primary spinner. James Coles, the tail ender……ooookkkaaayyyy

Yes very sad news, a regular at Hove over the years, good friend of Peter Graves I believe as he was always at the Sussex Invitation League dinner when Graves was president. And of course, a famous cameo role in the best sitcom of all time.
