Big chunk of CC games theyll be available for. This is fantastic news. All of a sudden things are looking a bit brighter :-) Ive said before you need to get the best overseas players available to you whether its 2 batters or bowlers or a combo. Can you imagine them 2 with Robbo for a couple of games, frightening! They aren’t going to play together though ab. They only overlap for one week

See you can choose that or you can go a little deeper when i believe the real problems started that weve never recovered from. The last couple of years of Robbos tenure, yes his successes give him a lot of leniancy but! Signing Panesar in 2009 was the beginning of the downfall and the issues he bought with him culminating in him pissing on a bouncer and Ed Joyce having him by the throat in the changing room. We lost Ollie Rayner as well because of this signing. Then we went on to bring in a string of loan and desperation signings Burgoyne, Dockerill and Linley to name but a few. I guess what I'm trying to say is while yes Rob Andrew hasnt been the greatest success story, the rot set in well before he arrived! Sussex’s demise isn’t down to any one thing. Gillespie, Andrew, player ambition, are some of the factors. IMO the single biggest factor is the cricket structure, in particular the widening gap between Test ground counties and not. It is now glaring. Test match counties in Div One, the rest in Div Two (more or less). If Orr goes to Hants, it is a new low. It would spell out exactly where the power is, and where we stand. Feeder club. As it stands Orr is still a Sussex player, contracted for another season. I hope the club fights to keep him, whatever his ambitions. Obviously there’s a lot of truth in this…. But…. Last season you had; T20 Champs; Cider Boys 50 over champs; Leics Second in first div; Essex Promoted from div 2; Durham and Worcs Relegated from div 1; Middle

T20 Champs; Cider Boys - Strong links with the ECB through Womens Cricket and huge catchment aread 50 over champs; Leics - 2nd XI Trophy Second in first div; Essex - Excellent Academy (something we are trying to emulate) Promoted from div 2; Durham (ODI Venue) and Worcs - These continue to shock and surprise Relegated from div 1; Middle Dont own the ground.

If Orr does stay you'd now have. Haines Orr Alsop Coles Simpson FHP Carson McAndrew Seales Karvelas Deliberately left 4 out as i dont see a glarignly obvious player in our squad to do that but you could play Carter as a specialist batter but not sure hes capable of being 4 which is usually where your best player sits. 2 more batters needed, if Orr goes 3. Currently on the bench for the CC would be - Clark Carter Ibrahim Hunt Crocombe Very clear we need a bit more depth still. Edited - Forgot about Karvelas! You forgot Lamb again

Yep!
I look through the player profiles is my excuse for Lamb.
The only spot for him is direct competition for FHP, i'd pick who the better batter is.

You are right in suggesting Sussex should indeed be doing better, test ground or not. There is not much we can do about having our best players pinched, though. Look what’s happened to Worcs, who are similar in some ways, to us - their best players gone, likewise Essex lose Lawrence to Surrey. There are two types of counties : ones which sign the best players, and ones which lost their best players. We are in the later camp. That’s a deep hole. Losing Andrew may help a bit , if no other reason than a lot of fans had had their fill of him. Even so there is no quick, easy way out of that hole.

Interesting to see that the daughter (Lauren) of a former Sussex player from the late 1970’s Giles Cheatle has been selected by Australia to tour India.
Are there any other daughters of Sussex players that have played international cricket ?

I can't stand the crisp packet cup and the obvious financial disparity between test counties and non-test counties which has actually existed for years but has been exacerbated by COVID and many other factors in the past 3-4 seasons. But the idea that NTC's are suddenly now rendered irrelevant is a nonsense. As shown by the trophy winners last season, the NTC's can very much compete if they have good coaches and effective leadership and management off the field. What Sussex (pre Farbrace coming in and Andrew's departure) have lacked is good coaches and effective leadership and management off the field.
