Good wind up! Pope who got 196 a few tests ago is dropped and the best keeper in the world too. Porter gets in ahead of Jimmy! Dawson ahead of Bashir who has just bowled great and got 5 wickets. Nice try! Hear me out Steve, Ollie Pope is too slow a starter to bat at 3 its too critical, and i cant have him over Brook or Root. Dawson just purely because he'll offer control and has earnt his spot ultimately. The Porter thing is to start looking to the future as i think weve reached a tipping point with Bazball.

Nice try! I’m in favour of selecting as many Surrey players as possible to give other counties a chance in the Championship 😅 Theyll just take more players from other counties SP.

Matty Potts, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook and Ollie Stone would be ahead of Porter.

Matty Potts, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook and Ollie Stone would be ahead of Porter. Maybe but its just who ive seen and would pick really. Sam Cook is a fair shout. But i wouldnt personally pick any of the others over Porter. Stone couldnt through a test match and Porter has the same average as Potts and a significantly better average than Carse and has done it in Div 1.

At least 50% of our teams in red ball and white ball cricket have come through our academy.

Next test in England…
Crawley Duckett Lawrence Root Brook Stokes Bairstow Tongue Atkinson Bashir/Wood Anderson . The batting falls off a cliff so hopefully the top seven would get enough. Apart from his massive ton, Pope has looked jittery for a while, so time to give someone else a go. Lawrence gets the nod over Clarke. Close call between foakes and Bairstow, but I’m not willing to write off the big man quite yet. Bashir or Wood depending on the conditions on the day. If Tongue starts the season on form he definitely deserves to build on his promising start in test cricket. Sorry Ollie but you put in a lacklustre bowling and fielding performance in the last test and generally give the impression that your mind is elsewhere. Bowl Sussex to the Div Two title, and then we can talk.

Bazball is great but you cant keep putting the wrong players in and expect to win. My team for the first test of the Summer would be 1. Crawley 2. Duckett 3. Bohannon 4. Root 5. Brook 6. Stokes 7. Rew 8. Dawson 9. Robinson 10. Wood 11. Porter He’s on 698 wickets. Ten away from Warne. Have a heart.

The bowling attack is in a state of flux and it’s hard to predict who the chosen ones will be. England are clearly losing faith with Robinson and I wouldn’t be too surprised if that turns out to be his only test match of the year. That ought to be good for us but I still have doubts that we’ll see much of him either.
The batting lineup is much more predictable. There is no chance of anyone replacing Pope at 3 for a while unless he gets injured. I’m very much hoping that the reliable Foakes is picked ahead of the talented but highly erratic Bairstow.

Foakes is an expensive luxury we cant afford. We need a batter at 7 that can score big hundreds not players that make painful 30s and chip to mid wicket all the time.

He does, if you include all the runs he saves with his excellent wicketkeeping !! You cant have a player averaging 29 at 7 with our top 6. Dont get me wrong its harsh on him but say you had a Moeen Ali type option as a spinner you lengthen the batting that way
