I wonder if Mark Wood will get the same sh!t Ollie has faced the last week or so, bagged a pair and 0-89 in his 15 overs No because he didn’t get injured or sick, didn’t take his wife on tour with him and didn’t have to delete a podcast. With Robinson it’s more the off-field stuff that gets his name in the headlines unfortunately.

Woods wife was on tour for part of like Robinson did! Imagine not being able to have your family on a 2 month tour
Cant take the injury comment seriously, 34 tests Wood has played in 9 years because of a long list of breakdowns, Robbo has played 20 in 30 months.
Robinsons bowling average is far superior too.
Cant think of anything other than the tweets he has done off field that would warrant any headline?

The wives and children were only in Abu Dhabi for the break between tests. Ollie’s girlfriend has travelled and stayed with the team for the whole tour. I’m not trying to put Ollie down, I think he’s a superb bowler and as you say his figures are far superior to Wood. He just needs to keep his head down and lower his online profile, keep out of the headlines and concentrate on his cricket.

Complex character. He had to earn international recognition the hard way. Yet he gives his critics reason to believe he’s not too bothered whether he keeps his place or not.

Mark Wood is almost universally liked, even by opponents whereas Ollie R rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, including me at times! England are in transition and could really do with a fit and firing Robinson so if he performs for us in the early season, I’d expect him to be welcomed back to the national team with open arms. I just worry about his fitness. When quick bowlers start developing serial injuries it’s usually a slippery slope.
Meanwhile the England selection team has a lot of thinking to do after this series. Bashir has been the breakthrough player and deserves a longer run, especially with Leach injured but unfortunately he’s a bit of a rabbit with the bat. With Pope unable to calm his early innings skittishness, Stokes no longer an all-rounder (except for short bursts maybe), Bairstow unreliable and a question mark over the batting of Foakes, we really need to unearth some new talent. There will never be a better time to experiment than against Sri Lanka and West Indies this summer.
