Foakes is an expensive luxury we cant afford. We need a batter at 7 that can score big hundreds not players that make painful 30s and chip to mid wicket all the time. Every team would love to have a player scoring big hundreds, batting at 7, very few get their wish!

Yeah lets dump Foakes so he can play for Surrey as they go for the hat trick. John Simpson should be keeper!

You cant afford to have a player at 7 in test level averaging 29. Indias 3rd choice wicketkeeper scored 129 runs in this test match batting 7.

An alternative line up to keep Foakes in would be, based on current squads rather than my team. My point purely is he takes such a key position in our batting line up we need more from him. But if we could have a world where we have him averaging 29 at 8 then we'd be very lucky. Stokes being able to bowl would solve a lot of issues!
Crawley Duckett Pope Root Lawrence Stokes Bairstow Foakes Hartley Wood Bashir

It’s the age old debate. Do you pick your best wicketkeeper provided he’s a reasonable batsman (like Jack Russell) or someone who might merit a place on his batting alone and is an adequate keeper (like Alec Stewart)?
It can depend on the balance of the rest of your side and there’s no definitive answer but I think the catches not taken and the extras conceded by an average keeper (compared with a world class one) are less visible and therefore often overlooked.

I totally agree, a natural gloveman is worth its weight in gold but if it disrupts the balance of the side (and i tihkn England have recognised this before) then they have to be sacrificed. We won in Pakistan with him only playing one test and lost in India in similar conditions. To add I'm a big fan of Foakes, just think for the future we need to move on from him.

Dropping Robinson was as predictable as a Chris Hughton Brighton selection but its very very harsh. Scapegoating isnt meant to be part of this teams mantra.

Inevitable rather than predictable to be fair.
He apparently picked up a back injury whilst batting in the last Test which is why he couldn’t bowl at full tilt and wasn’t used in the second innings.
His fitness is a real concern, if England can’t rely on him making it through 4/5 days he’s unselectable.

He was never bowling in that 4th innings and ive reasonable doubt about his back injury, if there was why not send him home?
He has been made a scapegoat of the media and this England team, the ECB have failed him last year by refusing to let him play. This persona the media like to portray of him is very different to how he looks and shows on his social media pages.

When England are good, they are very, very good but when they are bad they are horrid! The playing style will gain results from time to time because its unique and aggressive but any style you play youll never consistently win if the players arent good enough! Crawley - 33 Duckett - 42 Pope - 34 Root - 49 Bairstow - 36 Stokes - 35 Foakes - 29 Hartley - 19 bat 33 ball Wood - 16 bat 30 ball Bashir - 4 bat 32 ball Anderson - 9 bat 26 ball 1 bowler averaging less than 30 in test cricket and only 2 batters averaging over 40 - basically its all pretty average and our bowlers generally do just about enough to keep us in games but no current match winner with the ball and probably only 1 with bat. We need to find the next level. Pope is a clear talent but in my opinion unfairly treated by batting him in the wrong positions (similarly to Ramprakash all those years ago).
