Not a good toss to lose.
A difficult batting surface in bowler friendly conditions that could have been a lot worse (four dropped catches and a couple of very close lbw appeals turned down), but equally it could have been better than 143.
Good rearguard action from Carson. Whilst I still feel he has someway to go with his bowling, without doubt his batting has improved significantly over the last couple of seasons.
If Ollie Robinson ever wanted a stage to show the England selectors they have made a mistake by omitting him from the squad to play the West Indies, he certainly has it in this match on this wicket.
Hopefully, we can do to them what they did to us and even more importantly hold all our catches.

Worst wicket I have seen all season. A 25 point deductiion and the sacking of the Head Groundsman should follow immediately. How are we supposed to produce test batsmen when we produce absolute rubbish cricket pitches like this?

Well we’ve held all our catches Devon and after a very dodgy first three overs Ollie Rob is back to his best.
82/5 at tea.

That isn't great either. I think that groundsman deserves to be relieved of his duties too.

Well we’ve held all our catches Devon and after a very dodgy first three overs Ollie Rob is back to his best. 82/5 at tea. The primary difference Joe is three of their four dropped catches were regulation, three of our four were absolute screamers. Coles nearly spilt Keogh. Out of all our bowlers this season, I reckon Robinson has probably had as many catches go down off his bowling as all the others put together. Great fightback. Just need to slow down their run rate and pick up Shaw and McManus and we can turn it into a one innings match. Hopefully, we bat better second time around. We will need to as Derbyshire and Leicestershire aren't doing us any favours in this round of fixtures. As for the wicket, it is almost as though Northants deliberately prepared a green top anticipating Robinson would be included in the Test squad and would therefore not be available for this match.

We will be batting again tonight. I very much hope you are right. Wouldn't want to be someone who has paid full price in advance for a third day ticket.

I am really enjoying the Northants commentators talking up the quality of their batters and how comfortable they are looking...
just before they get out.

He's not tried to take on anything that is not there... until taking on one that is not there. You just can't make it up!! If we hadn't been so profligate at the start, we could well have had them all out for around 75.

This pitch is a shocker, some barely bouncing and some lifting from nowhere.

Prediction: groundsman to find his mower over night and then it suddenly a batsmens paradise. We need to not lose too many wickets tonight.
