That was tantalising. If only someone in the tail could have hung around with Rogers for a bit longer. Surely he should be moved up the order. In hindsight we’d probably have been better off sticking with Foreman.
Intriguingly no team has found batting easy today unless you count Duckett and Stokes!

We all know it’s been a great season in T20 and championship . It’s a given. Every poster knows it and regularly writes it, including myself. not in doubt. Even so , some of the young/fringe players are being shown up. They are seeing why they are in the 2s. some will knuckle down in light of this , some will fade away. This one-day cup has been a leveller so far. No bad thing. Very Disappointing though. hopefully the bowlers do themselves credit. Interestingly the moan last year was they didn't spend enough time in the 2s honing their skills now it's that their not ready. The bigger disappointment is the failure from the senior players. Not sure there’s been a moan this season. Everyone agrees Sussex have overdelivered where it matters . This one day cup is a chance to see what the reserves have got . Totally different expectations . And it’s entirely the right time to play them. If they have a run of games and take their chance, it says something. It’s actually a shambles of a competition now, which is a shame. The Nat West final used to be a massive event.

Been out all day, just caught up on the live stream. A thoroughly entertaining match.
A strange one, what looked like a 300 plus wicket when I left the house at the fall of the first wicket this morning, eventually turned out to be a low scoring thriller.
A valiant effort in the end, but similar to the first game our batting wasn't good enough. We should have posted a higher total.
Rogers even in the limited opportunity afforded him the stand out with the bat for me. Quite simply he needs to bat higher, either at four or opening. He isn't going to develop at seven batting with the tail and we need to see if he has what it takes. Hudson-Prentice despite his 90 in the first match too high for me and needs to drop down to five or even six where I feel he is more suited and can marshall the lower order.
Bowling wise, good to see another good and solid performance from Crocombe. The one player from the young group who looks to have both improved and could more importantly do a job in the Championship if required.
A much improved performance from Karvelas and Hudson-Prentice the other stand out bowler.
As mentioned by Realab, given the players we are missing the few remaining 'experienced' players need to deliver with the bat. Clark, Haines, Simpson and I would probably add Carter to that list just not good enough.

Strange game but in the end very exciting on a glorious day! 5 x lbw against us didn’t help and I would say 3 looked dodgy with trigger happy umpires. Clark looked unlucky and was batting beautifully with Haines to that point. That changed the game as wickets tumbled thereafter , regularly! Great team effort in the field though and yes Crowcombe very encouraging, far less loose stuff that last year I reckon. My team for next game would be: Haines Tear Clark Rogers FHP Lion Cachet Simpson Carson Foreman Karvelas Crowcombe

I didn’t go as I had tickets to Charlatans/Libertines. annoyingly it would have been possible to watch the whole game then stroll to the gig. It looked from the stream like there were some dodgy decisions for both sides. Simpson didn’t look happy.

There was that little interest in this game from this board that no thread was made. A diabolical start but some huge character from Simpson and 2 of our young talents got us up to a respectable total. Character is important.

Yes a good rearguard action but we have a thin bowling lineup against some experienced Essex batsmen so a win from here would be a big surprise.

Thank god the whole painful thing is over. I think Farbrace made a big mistake in this comp, he should have put out competitive teams to keep up the momentum from the CC and Blast. Very evident that he didnt care about it which to my mind is disrespectful to the trophy and the opposition.
Really can’t see what we’ve learned about any of our fringe players apart from the fact that they all need a season in the 2’s if they get their contracts renewed.

Given the mismatch in experience (again) this was a more respectable defeat than I was expecting. Tellingly Carter, Tear, Rogers and Lion-Catchet scored a combined total of 10 runs from 30 balls, representative of the batting from our reserves throughout this tournament. The bowling has been better and Foreman, Lenham & Crocombe all come out in credit in my view. The return to Championship cricket can’t come soon enough though.

We have learned all there is to possibly know about our fringe players. And that will hopefully have a strong bearing in our winter recruitment. That has been the one helpful takeaway from this loseathon.

I dont think there was a need to put out competitive sides when we were all told from the word go this season that this would be very much treated as an opportunity for those players who havent had it. Where i think he has made a mistake is blur that message by occassionally sending out his strongest XI and the next game resting them all again. I think the whole competition is dreadful and needs to go, i contemplated going but didnt to any 4 and thats not because we were losing or who was playing for us but the 50 over competition just doesnt appeal to me at all.

All the while we've got an international 50-over side, we need a domestic competition. Let's face it, we wouldn't even be discussing it if it wasn't for that other abomination that has relegated this to a development competition - that's the reason it's dreadful in yur opinion.
Good point about occasionally fielding our stringest side, seemingly it was the home games we did this for. Although, due to unavailability, our strongest team wasn't that strong.
