I went to Headingley yesterday. There were no kids go free or other gimmicky offers yet the crowd was in excess of 4,000 and a large number of families were present. The match was also played without the hideous music which some counties have tried to transfer from 20/20. All in all a pleasant day out although the standard of play was ordinary to be polite. I'm interested in whether it was a day/night match or a day/day match? Great that you weren't inflicted with the 'music' we have to endure at Hove!

Flashblade the match was a 10.30 start fortunately as the climate up here is really not conducive to sitting out at 9pm. Yorkshire have always been a reluctant adopter of all the razzmatazz surrounding one day cricket and I for one am grateful. Yesterday was old fashioned cricket played to a responsive but respectful audience the vast majority of whom were not over 60. There are some pockets of resistance to all this change!

I approve of the 10:30 start. As you say, you enjoyed a proper day's cricket in front of a decent crowd - in daylight. I don't like the 2:30 - 10:00 schedule, and I'm avoiding these matches at Hove. Those brave souls who hung around at Hove yesterday evening are to be admired. I hope the volume of the "music" was lower last night, or better still, non-existent.

After the rain the evening was quite pleasant. The (older) couple behind us remarked that the music stopped for a while (I think they missed it). Actually, I don't think it was as loud as T20.

Good to see Monty Panesar back fro Essex against Surrey - hope he's fit and happy and bowls as only he can.

This has been the most uncompetitive championship I can remember in a long time. A moderate Yorkshire(and I have seen most of their games)are strolling to the title unopposed. They have never played a full strength side and are usually missing at least five regulars. Are we witnessing A Yorkshire domination akin to the sixties?
The only interest is in who is to be relegated. This is not a healthy state for English cricket. I do not understand why the likes of Warwickshire have gone back so much. They have Trott available and are barely affected by test call ups.
Who will come forward to challenge next season?

How about scrapping bonus points with immediate effect and deducting any points gained through them so far this season?

How about scrapping bonus points with immediate effect and deducting any points gained through them so far this season? Sussex have pretty much scrapped batting bonus points.

Coverpoint would you care to expand on why you think scrapping bonus points would help? I have long thought bowling points were ridiculous. You have to be pretty inept to fail to take 9 wickets in 110 overs which achieves maximum bowling points.

Eight teams in div one have between 30 and 34 (Worcs surprisingly are the exception with 36). But batting pts can make a real difference with a range that goes from 19 (Durham) to 34 (Worcs and Yorks)

They might be more meaningful if they were awarded for early incursion: say 5 wickets or more within 50 overs. Anything much beyond that is merely points for taking part.

Scrap all bonus points - they are a total distraction.

The current system adds marginal additional interest at, say, 100 overs if the batting side are seven or eight down and need 40 runs for another point. But it is only marginal

Yorkshire are reporting that over 19,000 attended the Scarborough festival last week. The championship match only lasted three days as well. If the cull that so many seem to want takes place then Scarborough would almost certainly lose one of it's weeks. People will attend county cricket if it is played at the right times of year e.g summer

Leicestershire have today been docked 16 championship points for serious code breaches by their players. This is a meaningless punishment. It might as well have been 100 points as it has no effect on anything. If the players behaviour has been so bad then the punishment should be applied to next season.
