Quite a good match report from the Surrey site of the outcome of the Second XI game:
Cricket - Yorkshire Bank Pro40 - Group B - Surrey v Derbyshire - The Kia Oval
Surrey Second XI have beaten Sussex in their Second XI Championship match at Horsham, dismissing the home side for 193 on the final afternoon.
After Sussex declared their first innings five runs behind and Surrey posted only 228 in their second innings, behind 52 from Vikram Solanki and 48 from Aneesh Kapil, they required just 233 to win what had been a fiercely competitive game of cricket.
An opening partnership of 97 between Callum Jackson (27) and Carl Cachopa (67) seemed to have sealed the deal but trialling Cambridge University spinner Josh Arksey quickly dismissed them both to reduce Sussex to 113/2.
Harry Finch (34) and Craig Cachopa (23) steadied the ship by putting on 47 for the third wicket but Arksey repeated the quick wicket trick to dismiss them both in the same over and trigger a huge collapse.
In the space of 11 overs, Sussex slipped from 160/2 to 179/7. Arksey completed his five wicket haul by having Ajmal Shahzad (0) caught and bowled but the final blows were all struck by Freddie van den Bergh, who ripped through the Sussex tail – taking full advantage of a turning deck on the final day.
Van den Bergh accounted for Ashar Zaidi (6), Tom Haines (0), Chad Barrett (15), Peter Burgoyne (3) and Chris Liddle (5) to record figures for the innings of 5/70 and superb match figures of 10/179 as Surrey won an excellent victory by 40 runs.
