Excellent post, HHS. I'm glad you gave credit to Paul Farbrace, who will no longer be in the limelight - unless Bayliss pushes him forward occasionally. At the moment, Bayliss is benefiting form having inherited Farbrace's team, although I'm sure he will stamp his own mark on the squad before very long. I'm not a Twitterer, so don't know what Piers Morgan has to say about England's success?! Well played, England. Well captained, Cook. Well capitulated, Australia. Well I'll be damned. #Ashes

Dream start for Bayliss who is going to get some ferocious stick in the Aussie press tomorrow as the most heinous traitor since Judas Iscariot, Marcus Brutus, 'honest' Iago, Mata Hari, Benedict Arnold,Edward Snowden, Lord Haw-Haw and Tokyo Rose all rolled into one. I think much of the credit must got to Paul Farbrace, who when the history of this turbulent era in English cricket is written is going to emerge as the unsung hero. Although I dare say it won't be long before Misery Moores of Nottinghamshire is giving cricinfo an exclusive interview claiming that Bayliss is reaping the reward of all his fantastic work with the Test team in the West Indies, just as he claimed that victory in the ODI series v NZ was all down to the brilliant foundations he laid in the world cup!... But seriously if England win this Ashes series, Farbrace will deserve an MBE. Farbrace is not unsung in this household, I'm a big fan.

Aussies' tour falling apart like England down under? Ryan Harris does a Swann and now rumours that Haddin is having a Trott moment?

Huge sympathy for Brad Haddin, who is not having a 'Trott moment' but is facing a situation with his four year old daughter that is heartbreaking. His entire family are now with him in London and we should offer them our prayers.
Who cares who wins the Ashes in the face of what sounds like a scenario no parent should ever have to face...

Brad Haddin to miss Lord's Test for personal reasons. Whatever they are must be serious, and we should all wish he and his family well.

UK press has surprisingly been less intrusive than Australian media, which is where I read the details...

However, as a Cambridge graduate he should have a better knowledge of the declension of personal pronouns. :pedant:

Getting back to the thread, Nevill seems to be another of the late maturing breed of Australian wicketkeepers, 30 this year and only coming into contention for internationals in the last year. He was a regular for Australia A in the improbably named Darwin Quadrangular tournament in July/August 2014, alongside Mitchell Marsh and Cummins, but also fringe players like White, Doolan and Ferguson. His first class batting figures look good and like almost all Australians, he catches about 3 per game.
He scored 78 and 12 for Australia against Essex , holding 1 catch but letting through 31 byes in Essex's first innings 414. That doesn't sound inspiring, but in that innings Lyon went for 136 off 22 overs, and he certainly bowled much better than that at Cardiff.

Oh dear, I hope his daughter is, or will be, OK. Poor bloke, no wonder he wasn't up to scratch in the first test.
