After the melodramatic claims of a near-death experience at Arundel on Sunday, happy to report that Burns was in the Surrey dressing room at Guildford on Wednesday and Henriques is also out of hospital with his broken jaw.

Of course I'm relieved that they're both OK, but I don't think the initial reaction was melodramatic. As the BBC website reminds us:
"Indian cricketer Ankit Keshri died after colliding with a team-mate as they both attempted to take a catch in a club match in Kolkata in April."

The intitial reaction of the paramedics was superb by all accounts. But some unnecessary alarmism was generated later by people who should have known better when - in my opinion anyway - a calmer and more balanced appraisal of what happened would have been more helpful (but that would have provided a less attention-grabbing headline than 'cricketers almost die on field', of course).
The Keshri incident, I believe, is the subject of a legal case over medical negligence and he actually died of a heart attack following the initial brain trauma?
For unconstrained melodrama we can all genuinely enjoy, I'd recommend not a freak accident on a cricket field but Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades which I saw in the ENO production at the Coliseum last night. Everyone dies and blood and gore all over the stage ... (plus some of the best singing I've heard at the ENO in years, I might add!)

Fortunately both players are going to make a complete recovery. But people could not have known that for certain at the time. If Burns had died, then it wouldn't have been melodramatic, would it? But you post with the luxury of knowing both will be alright- which wasn't known for sure at the time.

Great to see that Rory 'Lazarus' Burns, who some melodramatically claim "nearly died" less than two weeks ago, is already back playing in the Surrey first XI.
That's an impressively quicker recovery than any of Sussex's crocked fast bowlers!
