Robbo says Garton's been with the Academy for three or four years.

I'd be very surprised if he isn't offered a contract. If he's been selected for the PEPP by Kevin Shine at 18 then he must be an excellent prospect and one that Sussex should be keen to sign.

From Robbo's interview, it appears that budgetary restrictions mean that we are only able to replace the five who have left, with two players. As we desperately need to strengthen the first eleven, sadly thats where the resources should go. I ageee, we should be looking to give Garton some sort of contract, but somewhere along the line, we seem to have screwed up the playing budget

Irrespective of budget constraints Garton should be offered a contract for god sake he has been selected for the Potential England Player Programme.

As many suggested at the time, the playing budget was swollen for the push for honours when we signed Shahzad and Mills, but that went tits up - that could have been an official statement, except the last bit. Anywho trophies, or near as dammit, had to happen to maintain that level of resources for the playing staff and as we're not in the business of blaming coaches it's the players, or potential players, who pay the price. A smart forward thinking county will come in for Garton and Salt if we ignore them. Let's hope their measly wages and a much needed progression plan won't be ignored by our blinkered management and we don't sign ordinary outsiders at their expense. On that note, why Blake if we're skint?

Its hard to work out where the truth lies, regarding the budget. If we really did better Yorkshire's offer for David Willey, knowing we would also need an overseas, then that doesn't sound like a tight budget.

Cheap for reason, if he was. We can get cheap from within.

Congrats to George on his 2-18 (2 wkts in first 4 balls) in his 1st U19 WC match after being praised by Ian Bishop for his bowling in practice. Also 3-3 by 'the one that got away' including 'c Garton b Crane' which we won't be seeing at Hove

Some serious pace from Garton, getting it down at 92mph! Very impressive.
