Garton named in the 16 man England U19 squad to play Australia next month.

Wish he was here at Horsham. If he is good enough to play at that level he could certainly help stop the slide into division 2.

He's the best seam bowling prospect we have coming through our system at the moment and the only one who has consistently taken wickets during the past three seasons (77 wickets @ 22 between 2012-2014). He has scored 738 runs @ 31 during the same period.

Wasn't particularly impressive in the three day seconds game last week, but I'd agree he's the best of the young bowlers

I was at Fulking for the first day of this game and Garton bowled very well. He was unlucky not to get more wickets with a least 2 catches being put down in the slips. The cliche ' he bowled better than his figures suggest ' comes to mind. He was also the stand out fielder.

What worries me is how easily seam bowlers have got in the Academy of the back of so few wickets when compared to spinners who have taken 2-3.5 times as many wickets but not got selected. Is it any wonder when these seamers don't make the grade? As for Garton he thoroughly deserves his selection. Batsmen: Hameed, Holden, Lawrence, Taylor Keepers: Alsop, Davies Spinners: Crane, Parkinson, Taylor and Zaib Seamers: Curran, Garton, Green, Mahmood, Thomason, Warner The squad looks light on batsmen and heavy on bowlers. I am surprised Weatherley has been omitted.

Therefore the selection pool won't be as big as it looks.

Garton was recalled into the England U19 ODI squad as Saqib Mamood was injured. He got his cap in the penultimate match in which he was the most economical bowler and also played in the last match in which he took his first international scalp and which England won to square the series.
Tom Haines and Jonty Jenner are currently playing for London and South East in the ECB Super Fours competition. Jonty also recently played for Jersey in the ICC World Cup qualifiers where he was the top run scorer ( including a 90*) as did Dan Doram for The Netherlands.
That's four from our academy who have been recognised by their country but not by their county!

To get 2 out of 6 is not bad going! He is definitely the least experienced of the six named. Garton should be offered a Junior Pro contract in my humble opinion as he has been one of the most consistent performers since 2012.

Hobbo's a bit of a turn up - do they employ a white line man at the centre? I would send him off for long jump training for a month. Those chaps can't go a smidgen over that board and if they land too much before it, like an inch or two, that can be the difference between glorious gold and soulful silver, not forgetting shameful bronze.
He's talented and has pace, hopefully this will help. One point though, should we not be considering Hobden as an absolute starter going in to the new season if England want him on this? And Garton, another turn up, for that matter? I know if I had any influence at the ECB, heaven forbid, I'd be asking Sussex to give them good time in the firsts.
