I'll be very interested to see what Davis and Wright do with selection over the course of the summer. I sincerely hope we give Garton, Whittingham, H-P, Finch and Salt good game time in all forms this season. But be wise with your youth selection, don't play them all at the same time, for instance. Big seconds performances required first, especially for three of them, which is fine as now we've decided to needlessly hang on to Joyce, and to a lesser extent Mags, and then signed Taylor, our starting eleven for April picks itself.
Davis cannot possibly be as blind to succession as Robinson was. I'm still left reeling when I think of the bewildering selections for some games last season. I go dizzy, I can't fathom the ignorance.
Night all.

GG gets the dubious accolade of being included in the ECB's "Ones to watch in 2016" www.ecb.co.uk/news/articles/ones-watch-2016It is to be hoped this isn't the equivalent of being featured on the front cover of Playfair Cricket Annual - a surefire way of ensuring a season destroyed by injury, poor form or both!

Congratulations to George Garton and may he have a very good season and gain a regular place. Is it a sign of a new determination in youth from Mark Davis that he should get a two-year contact whilst established players such as Jordan, Cachopa and Magoffin only get one-year extensions?

Not sure, HH. Cachopa's form may not have warranted more than a i year offer and Magoffin could run out of steam at any time. I wonder if Jordan was offered more than 1 year but, understandably, wanted to keep his options open.

Good news indeed. A positive sign. It also has other implications ...

Who gets a contract extension four months after signing his first contract without playing a game for the club in the meantime? Odd, I would say. A one year semi pro, or junior pro, is the way we do it with everyone else from the academy as far as I'm aware. A little too much security for a lad in his position possibly. On the other hand, that security could be good. Should it be one way for all or less rigid? Maybe there's a hunch that Garton is a character who will thrive on security.

And when was the last time a Sussex bowler took a wicket with his first ball in his initial first-class match? Well done GG.
