Sussex's @george_garton has been selected on the @englandcricket Pace Programme for early 2017. Congratulations George
Not really sure what that means but it is good that he should continue to get recognition. Along with Archer he was the brightest discovery of last year and I'm convinced that he has skills that will endure and develop, not merely as bowler but as an all-round cricketer. He just looks to be the complete package whatever he does.
Fingers crossed that somebody on the Pace Programme doesn't look at his bowling action and start exercising theories!

I saw him bowling up at Sophia gardens and didn't see anything wrong with his action....I hope you only mean the propensity to overcoach and fiddle. to be fair Whittingham and Sakande also had good seasons so we have four prospects that look good. Five if you include Robinson who I believe is younger than Whittingham.....and if we expand beyond seamers Delboy is a good prospect too.hopefully they all fulfill their early promise. and Danny Briggs is also still a work in progress.

Exactly what I mean wally. I think he is a great prospect, naturally athletic and a fine field and good batsman in potential.

More on Garton's selection for the A team squad here www.espncricinfo.com/england/content/story/1098717.htmlA strong soundbite from James Whitaker appearing to suggest that theses include "standby players" for the Champions Trophy. That may be true of Vince, Duckett, Finn, maybe Foakes but it would be stretching it a bit to include Garton. It does signal the way that England see him developing though, initially as a limited overs bowler, and once again, although very happy for the player Sussex will lose another of their pace bowling options for a couple of Championship games.

I noted against the SA on Friday that when Garton is not bowling well or is smoted by the sword, his head drops and body language portrays the victim. Imho, his mental side of the game needs to be worked on by Jon Lewis.

No game for Garton yesterday but a convincing win for the Lions.

I don't expect him or Lawrence to feature much for the Lions.

Perhaps he should be leading our attack with Whittingham and Archer in the current CC game.

Perhaps he should be leading our attack with Whittingham and Archer in the current CC game. Couldn't be any worse than the dross we're bowling at the moment! Garton took the wicket of Bavuma today in his 5 overs for 24 as England Lions beat SA (A) convincingly.

I don't expect him or Lawrence to feature much for the Lions. Garton was selected for 2 of the 3 one day games and Lawrence for one.

I've only just seen this - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/40262451He may not play but look at the company he's in. They're all regulars, as you'd expect. He ain't played a single four day game for us - second division strugglers. He has to play more. England should be on our backs frankly.

2 wickets for Garton in the Lions 3 day game v SA, Elgar and Duminy both caught behind. He was mentioned in Mike Athertons article in the Times yesterday as having an outside chance of a place in the Ashes squad for this winter. What does this lad have to do to get a game with Sussex?
