Well played Sussex and especially Ben brown, who at least made a game of it . Seven defeats in the last ten lvcc games makes relegation pretty much inevitable. But four days of Kent v Sussex at Tunbridge Wells next season is my perfect match at my perfect venue so silver lining and all that... You know perfectly well that even if they agree on the fixture it will precipitate down!

Not so sure about the inevitability of relegation though. We play Worcs and that result will be crucial but I have a feeling the weather could now play a deciding part.

Anyone in particular or are you looking for a re-run of the French Revolution?

After a decent start, its hard to see how any team that loses 7 out of 10 escapes the drop. Not sure the head coach going on the radio half way through the innings to trot out the litany of injuries/excuses helps morale when Sussex were still in with a decent chance of winning. There's a real air of feeling sorry for themselves and that the world is against them around this side. Prior saw it and identified it on tv the other day. It's the job of coach and captain to banish that mentality.

Ergo, neither is doing what he's paid to do.

And now Hampshire are coming up on the rails. If they get some momentum, it'll be even more difficult for Sussex.
Sussex management appear to have left it far too late to take remedial action. Do they not have the will to make changes mid-season?

Do they not have the will to make changes mid-season? Worcs are a better side than their position suggests, too. They've played some of the best cricket in the division, evidenced by having more bonus pts than anyone, including Yorks . All they have lacked is the self belief to close out games from winning positions, as we saw at hove at start of the season.

I'd like to see a new head coach/director of cricket ( whatever Mark Robinsons official title is ) a new captain to lead out in all forms of the game ( Luke Wright please ) and a new head coach/ director of the Academy ( whatever Keith Greenfields official title is ) Its all very very stale and boring. New blood, new Sussex!

They've played some really positive cricket this season, and as you say, perhaps haven't had the belief to finish the job. Their four bowlers are collectively better than ours. Leach, Morris, Shantry and Ajmal offer plenty of variation, and if they get the use of Moen, they'll surely have enough to stay up

Correction. Yards was bowled by Patel. A friend who was side on confirmed there was no jiggery-pokery when I met him after the match. One of the best day's cricket I have had in years.... for a fiver (last day concession from the normal £17). Why then in a paltry crowd of about 650 were there only about 20 kids?? The match helped to counterbalance the memory of my last visit - the Sunday of the Test Match!

In the match report, Browns efforts are called heroic. He would have been heroic if he'd carried his bat and run out of partners or had hit 86 instead of 66 but to lose by 20 runs with a top order batsman ( and I use that term loosely ) still at the crease and then to throw his bat into the ground smacks of carelessness and dissent, hardly heroic! I'm not blaming Brown entirely for the loss, it's a team game and another poor batting performance.

The match helped to counterbalance the memory of my last visit - the Sunday of the Test Match! It is worrying for the game isn't it? In the summer holidays, in the Capital City, on the back of a thrilling Ashes win and free for children to get in that like you say they can't muster more than a handful. What are they all doing during their prolonged sabbatical? You'd think parents would be crying out for free ways to entertain their offspring. Or are they just happy have them quietly locked away in their rooms staring at computer screens? Dont know what more cricket as a game can do. How heavily can you market day 4 of a county championship match? The more I think about it the more I think the lack of terrestrial TV coverage of the game is hurting us. We are sold this idea that the Ashes victory has got the country in love with cricket again. Well maybe but still only in a very minority way. Coming as the win did on the 1st day of the new football season I think it barely touched the consciousness of the majority.
