For various reasons this was my first day at Sussex for a while. Honoured to be there on Yardy's last day and to see Tres get his 200 but disappointed with Joyce's body language, a spectator got up to retrieve a ball and throw it to Joyce to save him having to run all the way to the boundary and he failed to acknowledge this, and thought our bowling generally lacklustre, we never looked like getting that second bowling point. Hoping for better things next year.

Not playing five bowlers has most likely cost us a point or two, and potentially more. I'm glad Hants showed some nuts and applaud Yorks for making a game of it - we're lucky. Lose the uninspiring best buds at the top please, they are overseeing us go stale. Grow a pair and play 4/5 bowlers rather than 3/4 as well for Christ's sake. Can't believe some on here still favour it - thoroughly tried and tested failure.

This wasn't about 4/5 bowlers this was about a flat pitch. I am not convinced we would have got anymore bowling points had Liddle played.

Just listened to the post match mumbleings of Bore1 extolling the virtues of Bore2 while completely ignoring the questions of the interviewer!
Perhaps he should go into politics and join the other bores? ( go being the operative word )

Firstly, on a flat pitch, Hobden should have been the extra bowler. Secondly, whatever the extra bowler did, as long as he bowled, Mags and Jordan wouldn't have had to bowl nearly half the innings overs between them, meaning they may have been a bit fresher in any later spells, so logically more capable of taking wickets. The extra bowler is about workload as well as his individual ability to take wickets you know. Where's the logic in packing your team with batsmen on a flat pitch anyway? All sounds pretty clueless to me.

Would rather see Beer or a young seamer than Hobden at the moment. We can't afford the no-balls Hobden bowls. This is an issue which should have been resolved by now. Even more important is the current lack of leadership. I find it really disappointing that there is so much feedback regarding poor body language and lack of inspiration when we are in the field.

Next season we will have Shahzad back. However, going forward I don't think Liddle or Zaidi (or Piolet or Anyon) are the answer. I would deal with the lack of leadership by making Wright or Nash (anyone but Joyce) captain. You only have to look at Joyce to realise why there is poor body language and a lack of inspiration in the field. I expect Garton, Sakande and Whittingham to be putting pressure on Hatchett and Hobden next season.

It was a flat pitch, and we had the worst of the weather conditions. In the end though, eleven points is pretty much what I hoped for. Currently, we don't have the bowling to bowl anyone out. Jordan apart, no one really looked like taking wickets. Mags looks shot because of the load him and Robbo have had to carry, and none of the other bowlers look threatening. It's OK saying, play five bowlers, and I can see the point, that it may mean that we don't flog Magoffin and Jordan, but when those back up bowlers, who don't take wickets, go for six an over, it rather negates any benefit. Next season, hopefully, we will have more options, but for now, it's all about survival. With that in mind, we should pick a side that gives us the best chance of avoiding a defeat.

With 10 overs left, how many agree that Joyce should have tried to get another 2 wickets for another bowling point? Somerset were unable to declare, since this would have been in breach of rule 14.

Quite agree. Overheard in the pavilion yesterday morning at around 10:00 just outside the committee room - a senior 'representative' of each side agreeing to aim for a handshake at 4:20. Were Joyce's hands tied?

Were Joyce's hands tied? I think that was likely to be the case. We could though, be left with egg on our face, if we go down by one point. Just a mention for Somerset though, I thought it was a lovely touch, when their whole staff came down to help form a guard of honour for Michael Yardy at the end. Well done Somerset

The Michael Yardy send-off was very touching and lovely to watch. The applause around the ground was one of the loudest I've heard for quite awhile.

That's all very interesting, Mr Bonds. Good ol' Yardy, he's a Sussex ledge and deserved a good send off.
Hobden and no-balls - ridiculous frankly. How a pro can have what seem like constant issues with this is beyond me. I can count on one hand the amount of no-balls I've seen from either side playing club cricket every Saturday all summer. Granted it's not as competitive but still, there's so much scope, it's not even a line you have to land behind, like in most sports. As I said, ridiculous.
JB, Mags ineffective, Robinson injured, what more do you need to hear about balance and workload? You're right about the first changers needing to at least be economical of course, and you might be right about what we need out of the Yorks game but, Leeds in September, four proper seamers if it's four bowlers must be the way. Hatchett deserves another blast in more favourable conditions and if Robinson is back there's your four. A proper spinner's useful anywhere but it seems we ain't got one.
Finally, Shahzad has been a huge miss and we need him back. Finally again, Joyce should have untied his own hands if that was the case. Why would you agree to shake hands when important points are still to be played for within time. Sounds like a very one-sided handshake to me.

Maybe Joyce assumed we could take at least 7 wickets in the day - or maybe it wasn't his decision.

You can shake any part of anyone's anatomy you like, two wickets in a a day is a derisory return.
