Good luck to Jordan. I wonder how he will play it, his batting is naturally aggressive but if we want to win he needs to get through the new ball. Tough gig against their seamers. As far as I can find out, his first class experience of opening seems to be confined to two matches at the beginning of 2012, under the flash harry captaincy of H-B at Surrey and the dubious guiding hand of Adams. He scored 54 and 18 against the might of Leeds/Bradfrod MCCU in a Spring opener, then opened at the oval against Sussex the following week. He did less well on that occasion - 7 b Khan, and 20 st Brown b Yardy - and the experiment was discontinued. The Sussex attack in that match was Naved Arif and Anyon, with Amjad Khan at first change, followed by Yardy, with Hatcheett, nash and Gatting also bowling.

I think this is going to need something quite stupendous to get us out of this mire!

At Hampshire Captain Vince out for a golden but at 133-2 and just 66 runs to go, only a traumatic batting collapse will stop them.

49-3? ? Are they playing in a snakepit? Or is the snakepit in their minds?

A pathetic attempt to bat will see us humiliated in an hour or so. The whole culture of the club and its management has been pathetic. The skipper is shot to pieces and the coach and his subordinates are losers . To get relegated is very poor, never really thought they would drop, the complacent mindset of the whole club has seen Hampshire overtake us on final day.
Too many players have had it far too easy with lack of contributions consistently all season. Questions need to be asked of signing players not able to bowl significant spells . Batters blames the early season pitches and continue to fail.
The whole season has been a disaster and we have paid for our complacent , we'll get away with it attitude.
No spine, no fight, no pride . Wait before the excuses roll out . No excuses , I'm so ashamed of the team

Once again it is left to Brown, the most consistent batsman in the team, and Yardy, the old-stager, to show the top half of the order how to play. Almost certainly too little and too late, and I can only echo sharkey07's very clear analysis. First division status will be lost by two points: the two batting points we failed to get in time in our first match against Hampshire perhaps? Or a point each against Worcestershire and Durham immediately afterwards? Maybe against Middlesex at Hove? After that the points were shed regularly, but in those games the bowlers performed and we relied on streaks of lighting from the batsmen to make half-decent totals.

At least it is not football, we can't get relegated from the second div to Minor county status! Hey, it's not all bad, maybe Beer will get a game in Div 2 and we might even win a few games and entertain?

A quote from the BBC website:
"Knowing that defeat will consign them to Division Two cricket next season, Sussex haven't shown the necessary resolve so far."

Sussex have been taught a lesson in character, grit and determination by Hampshire, who looked dead and buried until recently.

I am afraid to say that the batting in this match has been a microcosm of the last few years and is the reason we don't deserve to be in the first division.
Well done and a very happy retirement to Michael Yardy but I suspect he will be as exasperated as we are all feeling with the outcome of his final campaign.
