I see you do not need to register to post on this board. Is that wise? It means even the moderators do not know who is posting. An invitation to troublemakers or trolls, or whatever they are called.

Just now, 21 members and 53 guests had been online during the previous 24 hours. I am not suggesting that many of the guests were intent upon posting, but those who post should be registered as members.

Sorry to labour the point but this new MB requires at least one moderator. The last MB had three! I spoke with the club's press officer today and while he's looking for someone is there anyone out there who wishes to take on this vital role?
Without at least one sensible moderator this new MB could self-destruct within a month given the number of trolls out there. And we wouldn't want the other "exclusive club" to have a laugh at our expense...
PS. We had many guests on the last MB. They come from either the general Proboards site or through a Google search. The difference being they could not post without joining - just view. On this one you can. Perhaps, admin could block this ability?

It might be helpful if the club - through the press officer perhaps? - posted directly on the board, giving some idea of moderator's duties, times they expect people to be on line, guidance on liaison over problems, what level of support can be offered, etc. The lack of clarity may be putting people off from volunteering, and some official staement, even on this unoffical forum, would be welcome.

Excellent idea. I'll try and track Adam down this afternoon.

Why do we need moderation, it could all be a lot more exciting without it.

I spoke with Adam and he said when he finds time he'll post a moderator job description and what is required and how to achieve it on this Board. He will also block guests from posting unless they sign up first. We have until Thursday to resolve these matters. Then we are cast adrift to our own devices and potential mayhem unless we tackle these issues this coming week.

Surely super intelligent journalists can work out what a moderator does, without having to waste a club officials time. One simple google search will tell you!

Surely super intelligent guests who think it's amusing to use an H instead of an F infront of their surname should find something more prohound to say. Be a man and sign up as a member and stop hiding behind a guest facade. Adam please make sure you stop the ability of guests to write posts. Otherwise, mayhem may ensue and there will be a right huck up.

You haven't to bothered to answer the question, oh well! So to save the club some money, and so they don't have to wipe your backside, I have posted one of the many thousands of links on the subjects. www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-forum-moderator.htmS&F, I can post what a search engine is, if you are unsure! What surprises me is that a few have been very vocal about saving the message board, yet none of these people want to do anything about it.....

Think the very lightest touch in moderation is required and we don't need a long list of rules and regulations.
Don't be condescending, arrogant, patronising, rude, elitist, intolerant or uppity. But I think just one line covers all that: No bitchin'.
Be argumentative. Be passionate. Be opinionated. Be critical. But don't bitch.
Glad we have a few women on board already; I wonder if one of them would be interested in moderating? Perhaps like any home, a cricket messageboard needs a woman's subtle, gentle, nuanced touch?
