24 year old SLA bowler Briggs signs three year contract with Sussex. Great signing. I've always been an admirer. Welcome to Sussex, Danny!

Much better option than Dockrell and Burgoyne, that's for sure, and if this was in the pipleline - which it presumably was - the sacking of Zaidi makes a bit more sense.
He's not a big turner of the ball but he has control and can tie up an end all afternoon in four day cricket and is a very smart white ball bowler who seldom gets collared. he will bowl Yardy's four overs in T20 matches with some success, I feel.

Thoroughly agree - an excellent signing, much more positive than anything we have done in recent times. Excellent figures in T20, and he should thrive in first class matches on the bouncier wickets. Let us hope we bowl him regularly and let his talents develop. www.espncricinfo.com/england/content/player/310107.html

It does suggest, though, that Will Beer won't be playing any red ball cricket next season, and is not regarded as good enough even in Div Two against the fragile batting line-ups of Leics/Kent/Derbys etc.

Overseas seamer now I wonder? Now we've got a top drawer spinner who'll play in all formats, I'd go for an overseas opening bat. Presuming Shazhad is fit we don't need another seamer, with Maggofin, Robinson, Shazhad, Jordan, Hobden and Hatchet and hopefully Garton.

Looking forward to seeing Beer and Briggs bowling in tandem in the one day stuff

And I see he still had a year to go on his contract at Hants.
We really do seem to be moving towards free movment of labour in cricket. Contracts no longer mean anything - Shahzad, Coles and Briggs being three recent examples of bowlers who moved to other counties when still under contract.
This changes the entire approach to recruitment in county cricket. Come August/September, county coaches - particualrly at Div One clubs - are no longer restricted to looking around and saying 'who is available?' They simply say, 'who do we want?'
The ECB regualtions about tapping up remain in place. But it's almost impossible to imagine them now ever being evoked and any county being fined for an illegal approach.

As we've already made a couple of approaches for seamers, I think it will definitely be a seamer, preferably a left armer. My hope would be that it may be an all rounder, someone like James Faulkner perhaps. I'd be pretty optimistic about our prospects next season if we could pull that one off

I'd be pretty optimistic about our prospects next season if we could pull that one off I'd hope we'd try and bring in an overseas batsman to shore up the top order, as it looks like we are fully covered in the seam bowling department. Not sure if Anyon will be back and when.

Hampshire commentator Dave Allen won't be pleased. He had a soft spot for Danny and really rated him.
I agree about a top overseas batter. Preferably an opener. We have enough seamers already.
