Which is their problem, let’s not go offering them our players. Doesn't stop Briggs agent or himself approaching them.

What's Yorks, Zum & Bess have to do with Sussex, Warks, Patel & Briggs? That's what I wanna know Sharkey.
Good player in this format I suppose, but if he's off, I wouldn't play him. Give the young gun some fun in the sun - although not wholly accurate regarding the sun that rhymed so many times it's untrue.

Oh I see. I didn't know that was previously suggested. Poor old Danny boy, always second choice.

Praise indeed from your captain. Luke Wright said, “He is amazing isn’t he, after getting the worst end to bowl from in tough conditions. But he is absolutely outstanding. Danny is so reliable and I know whenever I feel like I’m struggling etc I just give the ball to him to do the tough job. He is bowling brilliantly and I think last year that injury probably put him back and he returned too soon from it and didn’t feel at his best."
Adding, “At the moment he is bowling at his best and hopefully that continues.”

Really don’t understand why we are seemingly prepared to let players like Briggs, Wells and Evans leave, citing the need for players to be able to play in all formats, yet continue to sign replacements like Bopara, Claydon and Meaker. Also, which batsmen put in the performances that convinced the manager to suggest to Luke Wright, that he would struggle to get in the four day side? Utterly bizarre

It is all about balancing the books. The world changed in 2020. It is looking doubtful if we will be watching cricket in 2021, even if we can, what type of cricket will be played? Wouldn’t surprise me if players with 12 months left on their contract are allowed to look for other counties, if they wish.

If you have a player like Briggs, who you signed to play in all formats at presumably a fairly high salary, who then only plays one format because he’s not good enough in the other then it makes perfect sense, especially in these uncertain times, that it is not a financially viable contract.

Perhaps, three types of players will not have their contracts renewed.
1. Those on a high salary who are not consistent, 'the best' or can't play both red and white ball cricket.
2. Those who are deemed not good enough.
3. The average ones who cannot play both formats.
I fear there will be a lot of 'former' professional county cricketers on the dole come the Winter.

Wouldn’t surprise me if players with 12 months left on their contract are allowed to look for other counties, if they wish. The world has changed, but surely not just for Sussex CCC? Other counties are continuing to recruit, and looking to put out competitive sides We are always told, Sussex finances are healthier than most, yet are one of the first to plead poverty. It’s not only the Test Match counties who are improving their squads, the smaller counties do as well. We have pretty much neglected our four day squad for the last five years.

I understand there are over 120 county players whose contracts expire this month. As “Wicked Cricketer” wrote there are going to be a lot of “ former” professional cricketers.
The other serious issue is will counties not award any academy contracts this year .

Who says Briggs isn’t good enough for four-day cricket?

Off to Warwickshire next season. Another good man gone. Have Sussex secretly appointed liquidators?
