Still no clearer as to why: "everybody just felt it was time for a change...it was a point where we had to draw a line... deep down I knew it was the right thing" He goes on to refer to his new captain as "a clever girl" . Oh dear, oh dear. That's probably the only sentence in the interview that begins to hint at the real reason why Charlotte Edwards has gone; you can imagine where she must have told told him to stick it if he patronised her like that. This is going to end in tears and no mistake.

Five wickets for Heather Knight against Paksitan this morning. What a "clever girl"...and a patronising pat on her pretty little head from Robinson when she got back to the dressing room, I'm sure!

In honour of another fine England victory under Red Robbo and with apologies to the late great spasticus autisticus Ian Drury:
Knock me down with a feather Clever 'Eather Widebrows wonder whether Clever 'Eather's clever Either have they got Nor neither haven't not Got no right to make a clot Out of 'Eather...

I know it's still early days, but Robinson seems to have had a galvanising effect on the England Women. New blood and new thinking seems to have worked - so far. Why can't Sussex accept that this is the answer to rejuvenating a stale and tired formula? Two mistakes here - Robinson should have been moved on much earlier (for his own and the club's sake); and an outsider should have been appointed in his place. The board seems incapable of making difficult decisions, and meanwhile continues to preserve the 'family ethos' - with underwhelming results so far. Am I the only one with this view?

We began this season with a new Coach and all-encompassing Captain. This led to high expectations and optimism for the new season. We believed Sussex were too good for Division 2. Our bowling attack would immediately pogo us back as occurred in 2010.
Yet, as I write on June 28th, all I see is the same ol', same ol'. Why?
I agree with Fb. Just as we saw with the humiliating England performance last night, 90% of sport is mental - 10% is talent. Iceland were excellent examples of this. They played as a unit with desire, passion, determination and self-belief whilst multi-millionaire England crumbled under the expectation and pressure.
So, why have Sussex lost their mental edge from 6 years ago? Why can't they perform when under pressure as they used to?
It comes down to the coaching, imho. It comes down to those who influence the players. Hodgson was never an England Coach at the highest level. Qualifying is never a problem. But when the expectation rises in a major tournament, Hodgson went missing.
Moores had it - Robinson had it - but rather like magic dust, it dissipates and goes. The energy required to keep a strong mental resolve within a team tires - it evaporates. And why it is essential to keep looking outside for new energy - new people - who can bring a fresh energised vibrancy. To keep the players on their toes, positive and ambitious. The idea of a family unit and jobs for the boys may have worked in the past but not today. Sport has moved on - it has evolved. And cricket is no different.
Top European football teams know this. And why today, even their most successful managers rarely last more than 3 years. A quick turn-a-round - capture that energy, then move on when the charge dissipates.
I so hope Sussex rediscover their mojo. Robinson achieved this during both 2013 and 2014 towards the end of the season. I described it as his ability to magically evoke rabbits from a conjuror's hat. There was an alchemy about it. But even the best alchemists also run out of energy. I am delighted for his recent success with England. A new challenge - a new set-up - new energy. While Pakistan are not the strongest of women's sides, he will be always judged by how well England play against Australia. Robinson has made some brave recent decisions and for that alone I wish him every good luck.
As for Mark Davis and Sussex, the jury remains out for now. He was in the shadows for 10 years, so it may take him a season just to adjust to the light. As for Luke Wright he knows what he has to do as Captain, to galvanise the team, but you require a coaching team to support you. He cannot do this on his own. Wright has all the qualities to be a top and successful Captain; but he needs new fresh, vibrant energy around him to achieve this. At present, I don't feel it - I don't see it. All I perceive is the same ol', same ol' energy from the past - now jaded and weakened.
I greatly hope this changes as we enter the second half of a, so far, wet and disappointing season.

A lesson for Sussex and the English FA - go out and get the best manager/coach you can. The evidence can be summed up in 4 words - ENGLISH RUGBY & EDDIE JONES. Did you ever see such passion in an England team?

Heather is a not just a clever girl. She's a very clever girl. It's still going to end in tears. Lottie will be the next head coach - but these girls are clever enough to coach, too, y'know. They're still just 'girls', though, with no hope of ever being alpha males like Red Robbo, however clever they are...

Yet another victory for Robbo and his girls. Ummm...I think you just proved borderman's point. The England Women's team are not anybody's girls. Would you say that Root and Bairstow are Bayliss' boys?

Would you say that Root and Bairstow are Bayliss' boys? Yes. And yes they are. There's nothing at all in someone saying a woman is a clever girl, you plant-pot. The only point that's been proved is that you and BM, HH, are a couple of PC lefty do-gooders. Get a grip mate.
