Let's hope he doesn't tread on the ball and twist his ankle while warming up at Chelmsford tomorrow. Or fall down the stairs of his lodgings tonight. Or discovers he's got the Zika virus...
I wonder what odds the illegal sub-continental bookmakers are offering on him surviving until 7pm tomorrow without further mishap....

And he is out of here...... www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/update-injury-update-on-mustafizur-rahman Sussex have announced that Bangladeshi left-armer Mustafizur Rahman will unfortunately play no part in the Sharks’ upcoming NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup group matches. The 20 year-old is suffering from a shoulder injury and, under the direction of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, is due to have a scan this week to ascertain whether or not he will be fit enough to play in any knockout matches should Sussex qualify for the latter stages of either competition. Mustafizur himself has nothing but praise for Head Coach Mark Davis, Captain Luke Wright and his team mates, and it is hoped that there is a possibility of him returning to Hove in the future. He has played two NatWest T20 Blast matches so far, against Essex Eagles and Surrey last week, but the injury kept him out of Sunday’s visit to Cheltenham to face Gloucestershire in the Royal London One-Day Cup. Sussex Cricket would like to wish Mustafizur all the best for the future and we wish him a speedy recovery from his injury. "Should Sussex reach the latter stages" - There is more chance of Sid taking over as Director of Cricket

Well, surprise, surprise.
To misquote Blackadder - this squib has proved to be damper than a haddock's bathing costume.

A TV soap opera transforms into a theatrical farce. But credit to Adam Matthews for writing an outstanding diplomatic Press Release including the phrase, "Mustafizur himself has nothing but praise for Head Coach Mark Davis, Captain Luke Wright and his team mates..." Perhaps, Fizz feared a similar fate of a Bangladeshi wicket-keeper in April when the cricketer was beaten to death by a stump from a fellow player during a match!

What a complete waste of everyone's time and money. I take it this pointless thread will now be deleted from this messageboard.

Or, alternatively, how about 'pinning' it - as a permanent reminder to all and sundry that overseas signings are not always as straightforward as we are led to believe. The outcome has more than justified the cynicism and foreboding that has characterised the posts on this thread for several months.

Hey it was good while it lasted though eh? Absolute certainty to turn up as someone else's overseas next season and be an absolute superstar

We don't delete any threads, though sometimes they are retired if they boil over. In this case I'm inclined to agree with flashblade that it is a kind of awful warning about the management of expectations...and who knows what may happen in the future to Mr Fizz?

Getting beaten to death with a cricket stump is no laughing matter S&F - it happened to a friend of mine years ago and he ain't been the same since.
On a lighter note, I'm glad the Fizz is offski as there's no *** point him being here - he was the wrong kind of player for us anyway. Give Boy George the opportunity instead.

This version of events www.espncricinfo.com/bangladesh/content/story/1040673.html doesn't feature colourful and expensive quotes from Zak Toumazi, but it does go a long way to confirm that a) The lad has had a history of injury problems that threaten to get worse, and b) The BCB will always ensure that "So that he is not overstressed, we are not letting him play when he has a problem." Following the Tymal Mills debacle - and it isn't satisfactory to "take the positives" by claiming that Sussex have either found or developed an England T20 bowler - it now seems that there is a further failure of responsibility by the executive of the club to apply due diligence in ensuring that new signings are free from injury and/or interference with their selection for Sussex. This goes further than whether the coaching staff are satisfied, it is about ensuring value for money for the Sussex members, the gate-paying customers, and all of the corporate hosts who have a reasonable expectation of quality entertainment. Jim May has been very quick to shrug off responsibility by saying that a limited budget is available, whether used for playing staff or coaching, but the waste of that budget is surely within his purview as the Chair of the club. Being patient with sub-par results while waiting for young talents to mature is one thing, but stakeholders of the club should not be expected to stand by and tolerate incompetence, either on the playing field, the dressing-rooms or in the boardroom.

Still plenty of money for food and drink for the committee in the gin palace! Surely if money is tight the unnecessary luxuries need to be eradicated. With Rahman HH, Sussex thought they were being clever. How often has that actually worked for Sussex? What happens when the membership numbers fall by 50% next year? I can't see why anyone, if they had the choice, would renew their membership next year with the current level of performance. When you consider the ability in the squad against the current level of performance this the poorest Sussex team I have ever seen. The futures of the Chairman, CEO and Head Coach should be hanging by a thread.

On holiday with family in France and haven't been on-line in ten days and had no idea of any cricket scores since the weekend before last.
Just gone on-line to catch-up on results, hoping to learn that Mr Fizz had powered Sussex to a q/f or two. But wasn't very surprised to learn that he hasn't bowled a ball since July 22.
What a frigging joke.
Sussex have been well and truly done over. But I suspect that Davis and Wright have also been guilty of extraordinary naivety. Bragging publicly about getting "the world's best T20 bowler" at a bargain basement price was crass and it came back to bite Sussex on the bum. 30k for eight overs ain't a bargain.
I think we all suspect that a more professionally-run county (such as Surrey) will next season pay Mr Fizz the proper going rate of £130k and he will win a cup for them without any trace of an injured shoulder...
As hhs says , Jim May is the man in charge and the buck stops with him and his part-time and ineffectual CEO. Blaming Wright and Davis for this fiasco is an undignified cop-out.
