I've watched more Div Two cricket than most on this forum, I suspect. And I can tell you that the majority of second tier sides are stuffed full of good batsmen. Without fail it's the sides with bowling attacks that can take 20 wkts that get promoted. You are spot on here. So much has been written about the "gulf" between the divisions. Yes, there is, but it's mainly about bowling. The sides in Division 2 are still difficult to dismiss. It's therefore easy to end up floundering in Division 2 because of an inability to finish sides off. Middlesex and Surrey found this out during many years spent in the division. I think both started favourities or thereabouts practically every year that they were in Division 2. All the more reason to bat first, get a big score on the board and the psychological upper hand.

And day two starts as badly as day one ended - Hatchett drops the simplest chance to give Duckett a life on 180.
Who is Hatchett fielding sub for - is it Taylor?

To answer my own question, apparently it is Machan who was hit on the helmet while fielding close in yesterday and has a headache/concussion. On the other injuries, Nash has tweeted he has a stress fracture in his foot and Wright in addition to his back spasms is seeing a specialist today about a wrist injury sustained in the Pakistan T20 League. Davis reckons they will all be back for the next match , although that sounds a tad optimistic...

Can't help thinking that too many Sussex fans have an inflated opinion of the team's capabilities.

Can't help thinking that too many Sussex fans have an inflated opinion of the team's capabilities. Cheer up - we've still got 20 overs to grab a third wicket and get our first point of the season... Duckett has just gone past 200 and will now relax and gift us his wicket!

But the good news is that Sussex are pegging them back - we now have a bowling point at 343-3! ps: What is the highest score in the championship by a side inserted by the fielding captain?

We're not just pegging them back bm, they are reeling. Can't see them getting close to a thousand now.

BTW, how much captaincy experience does Ben Brown have? He captained an U10s team about 15 years ago, I'm sure of it. He is vice captain, simple as. And remember, he didn't have the option to bat but the option to bowl or toss - clearly if he wanted to bat he would have tossed, but obviously not. We could have been bowling anyway though. Scorecard looks better when you take your catches don't it. Batsmen are dropping like flies ain't they, Jesus H Ding Dong. Anybody for Salt and Cachop?

Shouldn't your vice-captain have some proper captaincy experience? Otherwise, what's the point in making him vice-captain?

He's made vice captain to give him captain experience, I believe Flash. He might have liked a few games as understudy first but s**t happens. It ain't difficult is it and if they feel he's the right man for the job it should come natural to him.
Meanwhile, 416-5 and we're starting to get into them now - two for the G-Man.

2 wickets for Garton and according to BBC comms, both wickets take out the off stump at pace. Well done young man.

Bad light has put an end to the fun for the locals. We've been batted out of this game. It's just a matter of whether we can get a draw. Something that rhymes with the double centurion's name keeps going through my head.
