What has Salt done to be selected. Very few runs in Sussex league or 2nds. Surely Brown, Wells or Joyce must be selected before. Whittingham got his chance because he performed in 2s and thats how it should be.

Whittingham got his chance because he performed in 2s and thats how it should be. He top scored with 70 last week in a 2nd XI trophy match v Hants. He's a specialist white ball batter and in the absence of Wright is next man in. |

Think Joe is right that Salt will play in Wright's absence. I was told Sussex potentially see him as their answer to Jason Roy.
Without Wright, Sussex's batting lacks serious power-hitting and Beer is at least one place too high at seven in Joe's XI. For that reason I think Robinson will play.
Will Shahzad be fit?
My tip for the T20 this season is Kent, btw. When they get Billings back from the IPL they will have a stunning first-pick XI:
Bell-Drummond; Latham; Denly; Billings; Northeast; Stevens; Blake; Cowdrey; Coles; Tredwell; Rabada
They bat down to number ten, have three quality seamers, a world-class T20 slower bowler in JT and Cowdrey's Yardy-style left-arm darts. The only thing they lack is a decent sixth bowling option if someone gets hit out of the attack (although they could drop one batsman and bring in Riley). It's a near-perfect balance that is likely to pulverise Sussex's rag-tag-and-bobtail XI when they meet in 26 days time.

Whittingham got his chance because he performed in 2s and thats how it should be. He's got a few for the seconds - at least four fifties this season in all forms. Admittedly a ton or two are missing. Ordinarily Joyce and Wells would be a no but the squad is small and lame right now so who knows. Brown's a must with Cachopa as he is and Jackson touring the country. |
