The Eng v Wales soccer match should be over before the start but I wonder how gates might be affected. Will potential spectators have instead opted for an afternnon in the pub watching the footie and will have reached enjoyment capacity before the start? We shall see.
A chance for Sussex to put the 50 over blues away and go back to what they seem to be doing best this season.

A very strong Middlesex squad. Will we have Taylor? Is Machan fit? Nash Salt Wright Taylor? Machan? Cachopa? Finch Wiese Brown Jordan Beer Shahzad/Garton Mills So after being dropped from the CC side and the RLC side, you are now dropping the hapless Briggs from the T20 side as well, Joe? It makes sense. Wright has only allowed him two overs in each of Sussex's last two T20s and has clearly lost confidence in him (despite describing him as the best one-day spinner slow bowler in English cricket befoe the season started...) What a disappointing signing he has turned out to be. It often happens in football that a manager signs a player on a big wage and then gets sacked a few weeks later and said player finds himself out of the side and back on the transfer list. But Briggs is the only example I can think of in cricket! Would Davis have signed him? I would like to think not. Meanwhile, the man who was sacked to make room in the budget for Briggs had a great spell for Essex today. Almost unbelievably Zaidi had both Billings and Cowdrey stumped off wides - in the same over. If that sounds fortuitous, it seems like it was actually very clever bowling - on both occasions he saw the batsman advancing down the wicket and deliberately pushed the ball wide, once wide of leg and the other time wide of off-stump. Very hard to imagine Briggs being smart (or bold) enough to do that... Aptly, Mr Z finished the match by hitting the only ball he faced for four. How Sussex could do with him batting at six or seven at Lord's tomorrow!

We've heard nothing from the club regarding Taylor so one must assume that he is going to take a late fitness test. The injury he sustained did not seem too outrageous as he managed to carry on batting (with a runner) then walk off the pitch unaided. The same cannot be said for poor Tom Helm who is now out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on the injury he picked up at Hove.
I'd rather open with Wright and Salt and then bat Nash down the order. He's had a bit of a lean spell opening and it might do him some good to change it up again. Totally agree with Salt opening in T20's however.
I also agree about Zaidi. We've effectively got rid of one adequate spin bowler who could bat and replaced him with a less than adequate spin bowler who can't bat. I imagine the reason that Briggs wasn't bowled out against Middlesex was because they have quite a few lefties to which the left arm spin is generally viewed as being less effective. Their T20 squad follows the same pattern so double the reason to drop him.
If Machan is fit I would rather (and I am sure I will get it in the neck for this) put him in the squad in place of Finch if Taylor is fit as its nice to have a left hander and Machan hasn't played badly in the T20's this year. If Taylor is not fit then Machan and Finch although that will be a massive blow as he is our leading scorer this year. His slog sweeping skill is priceless in the middle overs where spinners are looking to keep it tight and he can instead take them for lots of runs.
Hopefully James Fuller suffers from his usual bout of Sussex-itis and we end up smacking him for his normal stupidly expensive over.

There's only so many times you can drag out a lame horse.
It's now very apparent why Hants were willing to let him go and how Sussex got him after he took a salary cut. Perhaps he's got the yips? whatever it is Sussex can't afford for him to take up a spot in the team even if Robbo assured him he'd play. If you're not performing you're not playing, he's been given enough chances to prove himself. He now needs to go into the 2nds until he's improved enough to warrant a return.
Feel sorry for the guy and I hope he gets his mojo back but I want to see my team win and at the moment he's adding nothing and taking up a valuable batting spot.

We've heard nothing from the club regarding Taylor so one must assume that he is going to take a late fitness test. We've also heard nothing from the club recently about Mr Fiz and not a word about the early curtailment - whether voluntary or not - of Goodwin's hapless tenure as batting coach. So who knows? As for Briggs not being able to bowl at left-handers - the lack of a genuine all-rounder means Sussex go into most games with only five front-line bowlers, so all of them have to be able to bowl at right-handers and left-handers alike. I feel sorry for Briggs because the expectations - both his and ours - were unrealstically high. In retrospect, our enthusiasm was probably based on little more than the obvious fact that he is marginally better than Dockrell and Burgoyne. Last season those two spinners were picked ahead of Will Beer and Zaidi in the CC and asked to keep Sussex in Div One. This season they are playing for Leinster and Herefordshire respectively. Which rather tells us that what Robinson knows about spin bowling could be written on the back of a postage stamp.

Nash Wright (c) Brown (+) Taylor (Salt) Machan (Finch) Jordan Wiese Beer Shahzad Briggs Mills
I'm not sure why Cachopa has been named in the squad even with the injury doubts surrounding Taylor and Machan as we have Salt and Finch who are in better form with the bat.

Perhaps because, as borderman has reminded us, he has a contract until the end of 2017 and Sussex want to get some value out of it. The odder thing is why he has lost form so dramatically and apparently so finally. Two years ago he was a rising star in new Zealand cricket and it seemed unlucky that he didn't make the NZ A team to England. Instead he came to Sussex and played a few handsome innings. Since then he has regressed in every form of the game. Maybe it is a personality issue, maybe he no longer enjoys his game. You might think that he would be an ideal case for a batting coach of proven ability and insight to work with to restore the value of Sussex's investment, but then Sussex doesn't have one of those either.

The rain which threatened this game earlier has now, according to the BBC weather app, disappeared! Happy days! Glamorgan are ahead of us by 1 point, as their game was abandoned yesterday, so we will go top if can can win this one.

Important game. If we win, we are well on the road to the knock out phase. If we lose, it's still promising, but a way to go. Hopefully, Taylor is ready to play.
