In contrast to the Trent Bridge tedium this match looks like being one of the most entertaining of Lords Tests for some years. Plunkett redeemed his bowling frailties with exactly the sort of pugnacious, risk-taking innings we needed, and it is probably the final nail in Prior's international coffin that he couldn't raise his game to those heights. I wonder whether he now feels it would have been better to have the achilles operation this bring, bring himself back to physical fitness and a little match training towards the end of this summer and renew his career in the winter? Unfortunately its clear now that he was never fit and may have brought on the end of his cricketing career by chasing for an improbably rainbow. I hope not, because he could still be athe rock of solidity that Sussex need, even if England will move on, as borderman suggests.
Now Anderson has to show that he can still live up to his billing as the swing bowler par excellence. Kumar has shown how well it can be done and this may be a test of Anderson's ability to recapture the heights of a year or two past. Whatever the outcome it should be an enthralling couple of sessions that will decide this match, and perhaps a few other things. Incidentally, what price Jordan to replace Stokes in the Third Test?

Stokes 18 runs @ 2 off 43 balls from his last nine innings.
0 5 5 4 0 4 0 0 0
Edit: India 123-4 great leave by Kohli! Rahane out. DRS 1 India 0. India should have told Drs is being used and to either play under it or forfeit the game / series and any subsequent funding or prize money. I have no sympathy with the Indians. They have got exactly why they have deserved!

I have the test on cricinfo and we may be getting Prior back soon. I think he and Cook are most in need of a return to county cricket to get some form and confidence back.
England have been so poor in this test, especially the bowlers, that if they had sneaked a win through a couple of great performances on the last day it would be a travesty. Stokes is in and I am glad to see that his dismal batting sequence has been highlighted above. It is mainly the new players who are doing OK and keeping England from facing a 4-0 whitewash. Bell has become the player of old, score a nice 20/30/40 and get out, cook has no confidence. Broad and Anderson are like primped prima donnas and nothing is ever their fault, given a greentop to bowl and they pitch it short and when they do get India in trouble they forget how to bowl to tail enders, I think Kumar might be the batsman of the series (why don't they just bowl properly at him??) And while I am typing Stokes is out for ........ 0, Broad will come in and swing, jeez, if they only had a brain (Sharma will be off soon but they continue to pull at the short ball).
Anyway, who knows, maybe they'll get close, funny game cricket

But WHO else is ready?
No plan's in place! What has the guy running the Lions done? Nothing. Start here, get someone who knows cricket and cricketers to play the 2nd team.
Get the wickets sorted in CC. Better quality, spin to be allowed!
Prior to return or will he be injured? Where's your money? He'll make a difference in the 50 over games.

I never thought the day would come when the England cricket team fell below the standards of the England football team. We now have a team that can't bat, can't bowl and can't field.
I think we can safely put to bed now that all that rubbish about it being all Peitersen's fault in Australia, his sacking has hardly stemmed the rot, unless you are a supreme optimist who is grateful that we have gone from played 5 lost 5 to played 4 lost 2 drawn 2.
Time to say many thanks but goodbye to Prior, Bell, Cook and the bowling coach.
I am listening now to Peter Moores saying he thinks Cook is the right man for the job, heaven help us.

Got in from Horsham and just watched the highlights. England played Ishant like he's the new Mitchell Johnson.
Mo Ali's dismissal was awful and was at least the second time this summer he's been out turning his back on a short ball. If we want someone to do that we can recall Jonathan Trott (and I'm really looking forward to the peppering he's going to get from Jordan tomorrow!)
Prior's dismissal was embarassing and he conceded more byes in the match than any England keeper in a home Test since 1934. Even Kim Philby will have to admit he's a goner. And Stokes's pair was even worse than Prior's pathetic efforts with the bat.
As for the bowling in this match, England were criticised for pitching too short - but it sure as hell worked for Ishant today.Perhaps the sad truth is simply that Broad and Anderson aren't as good at the chin music as Mitch and Ish.
Borderman's team for the next Test:
Robson Lyth Ballance Bell (capt) Root Mo Ali (one last chance before Ansari is given a chance) Buttler (wkt) Bopara Jordan Anderson Finn
12th man : Luke Wright

I have just watched the "highlights" on C5(more like lowlights). I cannot believe that England could be so gullible as to watch the Indians set a field where the bowler pitches it short and the batsmen succumb to the hook shot and are out! Words fail me. I agree with Mrs. Doyle, time to move some of these people on. Even Nasser was critical of the England Captain "What does Cook bring to the team?" I suspect that we will have half the Lancashire team in within the next test or two. Will they give Cook one more chance? I hope not! Then again who is there?

Three changes for the Third Test: Buttler, of course, Jordan as expected comes in and Woakes too, replacing Stokes and Plunkett. Woakes has always been one of the preferred choices, although his pace is still down even on the rather tired Broad we saw in the last Test, and certainly nowhere near Plunkett or Stokes. His batting may be his strongest suit in time.

It is both disappointing and puzzling to see Jordan performing so poorly here after what became a fine match for him against Warwickshire. His line has been awful, his pace variable and apart from one or two moments, such as the slice just over Cook's outstretched hands yesterday afternoon, he has scarcely worried a batsman or shown much motivation. This in marked contrast to his first Test appearances against Sri Lanka, where he bounded in with determination and purpose, and until he was used as a stock bowler at Headingley he looked the part of a Test fast bowler.
So what has gone wrong? I wonder if he has been told he is only being used on rotation, to give Plunkett a rest and Stokes a chance to rediscover some batting form. It was noticeable how quickly he was dropped to aid Stokes' return to the colours and it doesn't look as if Cook/Moores have faith in him beyond the one-day matches. If that's the case, perhaps he may be available for us at Scarborough when proper cricket returns next month, and with something to prove. I hope so.
