Get this lad signed up now Since pre season, we've lost, sadly, Matt Hobden, and Jimmy Anyon succumbed to injury. With Jordan, Mills, and now Garton, all likely to be involved with England at some stage. Magoffin, Shahzad and Robinson, all carrying knocks and struggling for form, we are threadbare. Archer's performance today, allied to some impressive second eleven games, suggest that he may be worth a contract, at least until the end of the season

They don't grow on trees, he's already at the club, he's young (but not so young that people are gonna worry about breaking his poor young bones), and he's taking wickets and bowls quite sharp by the looks of it. With Whittingham, Garton, Robinson and this guy we could call that a good and thoughtful succession/progression plan - very important. They may not all cut it in the end, but give them the best chance. Anyone know his background? Is he 'English' yet?

Looks a very decent prospect and worth a one year punt at the very least. With all the press coverage of this game he'll be hot property for a while and Sussex need to tie him down.

I think England would be very wise to stick him in the lions squad over the winter in case the West Indies come snooping around. Although he is a long way off breaking into the England squads he is currently bowling very well, and along with Garton gives some hope to the future of the Sussex attack. John Lewis should be given credit where it's due.

What no one has considered is that perhaps he's been offered a contract but is keeping his options open at this stage?

These lads have been presented to him and they have started well. He has it all to do.
We need to work hard on these three, it's a rare situation. The first job should be to ask someone's mum to do some knitting on Archer's shirt.

Also, if Archer is keeping his options regarding Sussex open, he needs to show some loyalty to the club that gave him the chance he couldn't get back home - at least for a couple of years.

I also think that, had Archer been offered a contract a while ago, following some decent performances for the seconds, there's no way he wouldn't have signed it

A little worrying that it's only until end of 2017. If Jofra continues to improve, he could be snuffled up by a leading Division 1 county. Even so, an excellent signing for now.
