My starting XI assuming Wells and Machan are injured: Nash Finch Van Zyl Wright (c) Evans Brown (+) Wiese Jordan Philander Archer Magoffin 1. Is Wiese likely to be here in time? 2. Jordan is in India 3. Archer is always going to bat higher than Philander 4. 5 fastish right-arm bowlers? Why? 1) Why not? I don't think he is at the IPL. 2) Ok. 3) Philander bats at 8 for South Africa. 4) Too early in the season for spinners. I don't think our bowling is good enough to go in with just four bowlers.

I don't think our bowling is good enough to go in with just four bowlers. 1 and 2 have resolved themselves 3. Whatever Philander may have done in some Tests a while back , and his record for the last year or two has been to average mostly in the early teens, the evidence of one's eyes is quite valuable. I've seen both bat and Archer is much, much more of a batsman than Philander will ever be. 4. Philander, Wiese, Magoffin and Archer aren't good enough to bowl out a side, who on earth do you think we need? Those 4 are all top quality bowlers, with Jordan to come in for Philander later. What is needed is variety, either to include the left arm angle and excellent all-round cricketing skills of Garton, or to use Briggs, Rawlins, Wells. There is never an occasion when a spinner is completely useless and good captains will always look to do what the opposition is not expecting, sometimes for just a couple of overs, sometimes to hold down one end for a session while the faster bowlers take turns.

A 12 man team/squad for a 2 XI friendly starting today was announced:
SSX II - Salt, Billings(wk),Rawlins, Beer(c), Jenner, Welch, Oxley, Whittingham, Evans, Sakande, Barton, Hampton
Is it safe to assume that none of the players playing here will be involved vs Kent?
Can anyone give an update on the players named here who haven't featured much in the past?
Cheers

Cheers Billings is in our academy( wicky/batsman) Jenner was academy (batter ) Welch is a 19 year old Zimbabwean batter who played for our 2's last season, Oxley is academy ( leggie ) Adam Barton is a left arm medium bowler who plays for Cambridge MCCU. Im afraid I don't know who Hampton is but he played in one of our warm up games last week.
