Fancy getting out at 291. A bonus point lost..... Brilliant effort by the last pair. The top 6 scored 56. Admittedly, Shahzad batted 3, but perhaps the batting coach has been working on the lower order batsmen.

Philander not taking the new ball, I see. Hmm.

Philander not taking the new ball, I see. Hmm. He's knackered after his first innings performance with bat and ball. Those overs don't bowl themselves 🤥.

Adrian Harms on Twitter - "Vernon Philander scan tomorrow on a groin injury Steve Magoffin has a sore knee and has had fluid removed…" This smacks of deja vu, one game then out injured just like Mustafizur.

Ehantharajah on Cricinfo effectively says that South Africa will now decide whether Sussex get anything more out of the player than the meagre returns so far....this year's Mr Fizz? Or, possibly, Mr Clink, clink, fizz? www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2017/content/story/1092427.html

joe,
This smacks of deja vu...
The whole match smacks of deja vu from how one Sussex player dominates, where batting consistency throughout the team does not exist, and now the injury with our O/S who is already in doubt after just one innings. Apart form Archer, the one positive for me is Ben Brown whom after briefly taking over the Captaincy at the tail-end of last season, is proving himself to be a determined fighter when the team are up against it. His 99 run partnership with Archer yesterday afternoon was a joy to watch.

Can it just be coincidence, Sussex have had an injury crisis in each of their last three seasons. One match against the University, and two days into the first championship game and we've already had injuries affecting 8 players, Wells, Machan, Brown, Garton, Robinson, Sakande, Magoffin and now Philander.

Nor me, but I think we're not alone in succumbing to the trend for more and more physical training that looks great as an academic proposition but hopelessly ineffective for the peculiar business of playing cricket.
