Seafret stop play. I wonder how many times that happens to other county clubs? hhs, Last month when Archer took the first of his fifers, I overheard a supporter say to a colleague, "If Archer doesn't play for England I'll eat my pandora." Of course, that may well happen for as a Sussex hierarchy member pointed out to me today, it will take 5 years before Archer qualifies to play for England, whereas the West Indies could beckon him tomorrow. A pandora could be a charm bracelet, or a woman's name (cf Pandora Braithwaite in the Adrian Mole books). Do you think you may have misheard him saying "fedora", meaning a type of hat? I think Pandora was a cricketer - she had her own box.

I also congratulate Adrian Harms on a great interview with Luke Wells. And of course it must have been a wonderful day for Luke himself and for those of you lucky enough to be there. But a few questions and thoughts: Luke spoke about lots of white ball practice recently. What is this? A white ball in the nets, I suppose! But presumably the practice is much more finely tuned for scoring quicker? Can anyone explain? I know it’s only one innings, but does anyone think Luke’s shot range has expanded? And, I’m wondering if the impact so far of batting coach Yardy is more on his technique or on his mentality? Years ago, we saw gritty opening bats like Glenn Turner and Brian Luckhurst become much more expansive mid-career, under the influence of the one-day game. Perhaps, we are now seeing the change in gear from Luke? Re. range of shots - absolutely, that much was evident even before lunch, just seemed to be playing some more expensive cover drives and square drives. Then once in and past 100, he was simply awesome. Even before that over of 32, he just clicked through the gears imperiously and utterly, utterly dominated the attack. Those pick-up shots for six over square-leg were sublime. I think that had to be the best 4-day innings I have ever seen for Sussex, with all due respect to messrs Goodwin, Wells A. and Bevan, I don't think I've seen one better.

Hhs, How extraordinary! Below is a pic of a Panama hat. That's what I meant. Pandora is the name of a jewellery range and that just happened to be written under the image of the hat on the web. A pandora hat pendant charm to be exact. Silly me! I wear one myself. The hat not the jewellery! Makes me believe I am CMJ! Perhaps, some ketchup might help ease the munching of it. My dementia is getting worse. pleH!!

Maybe it's a cross between a Fedora and a Panama?

Are they going to go off everytime in the day night game when there is a sea fret? If so there won't be a result as they will spend more time off the field than on it.
As for Collingwood and Pringle over 200 balls of sheer and utter boredom. Hopefully we get an early both out early tomorrow morning.

What a crushing win this will be and what an innings from Wells. Couldn't believe the runs to balls ratio when I read it in the local fedora. Working on the white ball stuff has paid off rather quickly. Welcome back Wells, we missed the old version never mind this one.
I remember Wells scoring a typically arduous and rather slow ton against Durham in div one a few years back. He took some flak publicly about it from the Durham boys at the time. This will have been a very pleasing knock for the man. Durham might want a DNA test.
White ball cricket means one-day cricket Soothsayer. White ball practice means one-day practice, innit.
One of the best seam attacks in the country shouldn't have any problems tomorrow. Shame we don't have a spinner though. That's your cue Briggs.

Reeling in the thread: Collingwood and Coughlin falling to Wiese and Archer. Hope the sea fret keeps at bay now.

Frustrating end to the morning after the initial 3 wickets. Nash bowled very well along with 'Brigger' but poor old Jordan got tonked to all parts as Durham's No.9 'weighelled' in (sorry!) scoring his maiden 50 of his first-class career (typical).
After lunch, the new ball will be taken, so hopefully, VP and Archer will finish Durham off.

A fine win by an innings and 177 runs. Just shows that if you put the runs on the board you give the bowlers something to defend. Fantastic knock from Wells and van Zyl and another great performance with the ball from Jofra with a mention in dispatches for Philander too.
GOSBTS!

A most enjoyable 4 days of cricket where Sussex had time-travelled back to their days of pomp and splendour. Briggs may not be a Mushy but today's seamers are as good if not better than those of yonder. Is this the beginning of the steady march towards Division 1? A heady statement but so long as Sussex can achieve two steps forward and one step back, I don't mind. Inconsistency will remain a bugbear for some time but if there are signs of consistent improvement that should make up for future frustrations. Meanwhile, aren't some supporters peachy. Straight after the final wicket and Sussex had trounced Durham by an innings and 177 runs, a Member idled up to me and said, "Sussex were lucky, you know! Durham had a weak side and played badly. And our batting needs to improve. Three players scored less than three runs." A rather quizzical Member overheard his comment and responded, "But we scored 668, one of our highest ever totals." The reply being, "Well, our batting must improve. The bowling is passable, I would agree, but our batting? Tut, tut!" You can't please everyone all of the time!

Are you sure he didn't say "But we poured 668, our tightest ever beerpole" S&F? Thats's what I thought he said.
You can't please all of the time everyone. Only joshing with ya, hope you enjoyed the game.

Certain Sussex members seem very uncomfortable with the thought of saying something positive about the team or club. Great win, some great performances, as named by Joe. Tough game ahead but a good confidence boost with today's victory

False dawns are ten a penny in this game but after a shaky opening day I don't think I've seen a more convincing return to form from Sussex for several seasons. Proud to have witnessed the Wells onslaught and Archer needs hiding lest he falls prey to the wolves. We've been used to failure feeding further failures for over a season - hopefully this will work in reverse. For now - well done lads - have a day off!
