To be honest South Africa A were worse than an average second team. Therefore in all honesty I think any performances from this game need to be disregarded as I severely doubt Rawlins, Jenner, Beer and Sakande would be able to repeat this kind of performance against second division county opposition. Was this the worst ever A team in history to ever play on these shores? So how do you view Garton's performance for the Lions against the same opponents then? But it wasn't the same opponents, a lot of the SA big hitters werent at Arundel. No Hendricks, Smuts, de Bruyn or Kuhn.

Anyone know why Nash isn't playing?
EDIT: Just seen this on the club's Twitter feed: "Chris Nash is out after suffering a concussion during practice on Saturday. We wish him a speedy recovery."

Slightly disappointing not to get a breakthrough tonight, but we have runs on the board and it won't be easy batting between the showers. Highlights, a first ton of the season for the former skipper, and 50s for Brown and Jordan. Disappointment, the openers failing again, and not being able to grab a wicket in the last 7 overs

Was anyone there today? What was the pink ball like? What was the 3 hour time shift like? What sort of crowd was there? Did the ground fill up after 5:00?
Questions, questions!

Hi What a brilliant day at Hove. Top notch cricket from both sides with Sussex just about on top. The first and last hour belonged to the visitors but Sussex put in a quality shift with the bat.
Luke will get deservedly get most of the plaudits ( a remarkable ton starting with a first ball six) but for me CJ played a huge supporting role with a very workman like half century. He had to graft. Nice knock from the skipper and David W should be very pleased with an entertaining 25 runs. 350 plus a great team effort !
It will be up to our bowlers to follow suit at 2 pm tomorrow (weather permitting)
The ground looked fantastic under the lights and there was a large crowd in. (but not many for the last 7 overs to be honest) Not sure what to say about the pink ball.
All in all an experiment which worked out well on day one.
Lets hope for more of the same tomorrow.
Colin

I think looking at other teams batting first Sussex did well. It seemed to me that it was more challenging to bat earlier in the day rather than later when it darkened, although I didn't see the first hour due to work. Enjoyable day, but it did feel a little odd!! Did hear some moans but to my mind great to see so many schools taking children there. Four young lads sat in front of me seemed to enjoy watching some of the game, especially when Luke Wright came out to bat - then all got their tablets out and started playing cricket games on them! Seemed to me that all the children enjoyed playing on the ground during 'lunch' break. Agree with 2015t20 that most had gone toward the end. Unsure of crowd numbers to be honest. Not sure how things will progress for day/night but from my perspective (as a member) it does mean that I will see more play. Due to my shift work it actually doesn't pay for me to be a member but rather than find cash each time I go (and would I) I pay up at the start of each season. Back to the match I would have given Sakande last over just to try something different. Jordan wasn't threatening and something different, when batsmen were not going to attack may have settled him or given batsmen a little more to think about. Minor point I know. On a personal note I found the pink ball more difficult to see in the brighter sun than the red, obviously easier when darker. Understand it was pay all day rather than the let people in for free after 'tea' break. Not sure that was a good idea as may have stopped some people popping in. Slightly odd, but really enjoyable day - hope forecast is wrong for this afternoon.

Dobell said "This round is about players gaining exposure to the pink bill rather than spectators". He went on to say that "play didn't finish until 9:45 where it was cold, damp and there was only 300 people in the ground (Edgbaston)" Cricket clubs need to remember without supporters there is no cricket club! I believe this novelty is exactly that and won't work in the long-term in English conditions.

When it is cold and damp at a county match played during the day there are probably only 300 people or less in most grounds at 6pm.

My guess is that it would shrink. I sense that this experiment will die a quick and unlamented death at county level. I have certainly voted with my feet.

Our attack has seemed a little toothless in this game Rubbish ball, rubbish game. Whoever suggested day night championship cricket in the first place deserves to get shot as it is the worst idea to be suggested in the history of cricket.

I feel sorry for the counties on this one. They've had this bizarre idea foisted on them, and I can't imagine any of them thinking it's been a success. If the ECB want the test players to get experience of the pink ball, why not just arrange a North v South match for England players only. Then they'd get the experience at a higher level than they would in a county match.
