Archer is not only a brilliant cricketer but a lucky one too. A perfect combo. Barnard got him out twice this morning but on each occasion via a no-ball. Question: Why didn't Sussex go for the full 5 batting points? They missed out by 9 runs. I never understand the county attitude. Missing out on that one point can make all the difference. Is this not the second time, at least, this season? Are the batsmen not following the scoreboard? At least, Worcestershire failed gaining their third bowling point by 3 balls.
Yes it is the second time this season that Sussex seem to have been perfectly placed to get maximum points, then have been bogged down by the bowling and have failed - and again today, once the 110 overs mark has been passed, have launched out with attacking shots. It's a cavil no doubt but Championship and promotion winning teams scoop up all the points they can, especially when there are few games left and the weather uncertain.

Well done Sussex. 430 runs is a strong score particularly when they were 49-3. Pity about the fifth batting point but beware. Worcestershire have accumulated the second highest number of batting points (30) in Division 2 behind Notts (33).

A pleasure to see the first bowling bonus point and the wickets shared so far.
Gloomy voices on the WSCC fans forum: "i can't see this innings lasting the day"
"Not many games are won when the oppo score 400+, need to bat long and hope for the best now. I wish I could access Cricket Archive to check"
"I am worried here that this is not the conditions or pitch to be scoring 400+
250ish plus to save follow on? not in our current form"
All of us here know exactly how you feel!

Harry Finch equals a Sussex record not seen since 1976 for taking 5 outfield catches in an innings. Well done Mr Finch.

Not a bad days work, good from Jordan today and Finch deserves a special mention for his 5 catches which make up for his duck in the first innings. Whittingham expensive and wicketless but I don't see the point of picking a player then not using him, the lad won't have gained anything from today except to think that he's not good enough. I hope he gets another chance tomorrow.
2 quick wickets in the morning and enforce the follow-on.

Liquid, I agree Beer should play, I also think Briggs should too. 1 contains, 1 attacks. Wiese, over paid, over rated, under performs. Batting 8, bowls medium, what sort of overseas player is that? Sussex have enough of those already! You said Salt was too reckless, well you don't have too reckless to get 0! It might just might make him, if you don't try you won't find out. Plenty of safe picks in cricket that have moved up a level and failed, Robson I feel is one of them. Like his brother, over rated. Now where's he these days, haven't seen him in the Middx team recently? I digress, Salt can do no worse. Beer can improve the team and give the attacking option lacking. You don't need to convince me mate, I think that's what the management think about Salt. I'd play all the academy lads I gave a pro contract to, thought that was the point. They're the ones I'd be giving extended runs to, all outside signings would have more to prove for me. Sussex do it the opposite and now poor old Whittingham might not get another game after bowling four expensive overs. That's what happened last time, hopefully that's not on his mind. Maybe he'll get a go second innings but he'll need to improve fast under this management. And Garton, who should also be playing.
Anyway, as a warm accepting person I don't like to moan too much and you can't really argue with doing well. We're well on top here and after looking at both competition tables we're actually doing better than I thought. An attack of Jordan, Archer, Whittingham, Garton and Beer would be more threatening though. It would also bat just as deep. It would also be more expensive no doubt but who cares? If it is and the negative (economy) outweighs the positive (wickets), change it. And there's my whole point in a nutshell - try the homies first.
Goodnight everybody, may the force be with us.

A delayed start but no rain forecast in playing time today, though tomorrow is still socked in for a soaking. Great opportunity if the bowlers can concentrate and take the remaining wickets quickly, then regroup to bowl them out on the follow on. Hint to Mark Davis and Ben Brown - in the words of Stevie Winwood "if you see a chance, take it"

Caramba! that was close to the 150 mark but with 13 runs to spare, Sussex have done the right thing and forced the follow-on. Now our bowlers must offer their very best cohesive performance of the season as rain is forecast for tomorrow. Also, can Finch beat the club record of 7 outfield catches in a Championship match? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/cricket/40791580

A little worrying. Archer is not opening the bowling in the 2nd innings. He is being saved for later or has he picked up an injury? Anyone in the know?

A great shame Nash shelled an easy chance at 3rd slip off D'Oliveira only an over before. edit: Another wicket falls. 19-2. The momentum is with Sussex.

More Momentum than gathered in Crawley last night....41-3, Clarke out and Wiese unlikely but very welcome hero of the hour.
