Kolpak, foreign by any other name? Just a political farce of a system. He can't play for England, therefore he's an overseas player. He's not qualifying. Will he go back to SA in the winter to play out there? You bet he will. All he's done is renounced playing for SA to come here and earn a big 3 year pay cheque. Wake up to the reality. He's stopping an English qualified player playing. Look what Robinson has done, 1st game, eclipsed Wiese. So what's his value to the side? We have enough young(ish) English quick, medium bowlers who bat. Why a thirty + overseas? I continue to say it, if they come from another country to play, they have to win games, if they don't, they're not worth having. Plenty in Sussex can play and not win games! For me the issue is not whether Wiese learned his cricket in Pevensey or Pietermaritzburg, but what value he adds to the side. As grandavefan points out, Robinson has effectively eclipsed him in this game and is likely to do so again and again. Robinson, of course, had no heritage or geographical connections with Sussex before he was recruited but is a very good young cricketer who has come back from significant injury problems to take his opportunity at a significant time. The overseas/Kolpak/non-Sussex/non-Brit/whatever issue is a red herring. This is a global game wherein success is increasingly hard-won, and only so by professional, strategic management and performance. Young players will be stimulated to want to watch or to play for a team if it is successful, and not because it's members come from somewhere 40 miles away, but still the right side of the Weald . I do think Wiese's recruitment was the wrong move and have said so consistently, on playing grounds, and on the basis that this club can only support so many right arm pace bowlers without some going off the boil. It is obviously going to be difficult for Davis to admit that he made the wrong choice, not because he was born in South Africa but because he was charged with getting in players to turn around a half-decade's worth of stagnatiuon and under-performance, and made the wrong choice. If he is very lucky he might have the opportunity to quietly "rest" Wiese for the next round or more, and then spend the winter looking for a club who will take him on loan. Frankly there isn't much else he can do.

Robson goes. 10-2.
I would prefer to watch 'The Exorcist' than follow this cricket. Far less horrifying and uncomfortable!

The County Championship is not a global game is it HH. It is a breeding ground for English test match cricketers, primarily. And of course young people care where their heroes are from - Anderson's biggest fan club is in Burnley, for example, and it's the same for everyone. It's to do with relating closely, ain't it.
If you need players cos you can't produce your own, or can't sign good enough players from other counties, then knock yourself out, bend the rules and get a Kolpak so that you're hopefully competitive until you learn how to produce good players yourself.
We are not in that position, thank Christ, and have at least three players like Wiese who are better with both bat and ball - we can't claim to have produced them but they're here.
It's not personal, Wiese is a solid enough player and probably a decent fella for all I know. He's in the way though, and he ain't the only one - and they're not all Kolpaks.
In the meantime, the side our Kolpak coach has put together here is making a considerable meal of Glamorgan seconds. Our seconds could have done that. What a waste.

Now down to Nash and Brown to see us through.
120-4: 89 runs to win.
Re: Wright, I have no idea what's happened to his form. He can't buy a run at the moment. There are no clues on his Twitter. His confidence has moved abroad.
An interesting tweet to prove Luke's past sparkling batting form.

Surely someone reminded Luke that we're not playing T20 up at Colwyn Bay. Has he become a T20 specialist? Is he losing interest in proper cricket? Just asking.

Wow! Super Ollie Robinson. What a sensational return to the 1st XI. Well done to the Sussex players that performed (Nash, Robinson, Archer, Brown & Jordan).

Some people really don't understand the term Kolpak do they, Davis is not, and was not, a Kolpak 🙄

Well a close game's a good game. Davis is lucky there were already some decent players here before he rolled up with his Kolpak plan. We could have Virat Kholi in this team now, if we didn't have two Kolpaks instead.
All 20 wickets went to Archer, Jordan and Robinson in this game. I think with Garton and Beer added to that attack we'd be even better. But at what cost? None whatsoever.
Well done you lucky swines, Glammy ought to play their seconds more often, or we ought to play ours.
By the way Magik, KG? What does he do? What has he ever done? I'd give him the same one way ticket out as Davis. A two for one.
